The Economics of Culture is a discipline with its own personality in the general field of the Economy, which has for three decades provided an interesting vision for the world of art and culture. The world, moreover, has historically been quite refractory to the scrutiny of the social sciences. The first part presents an analysis of the relations between power and culture; it follows with a review of the contributions of the economy to the study of art and culture, in order to concur in a model of interpretation of cultural policies. The second part of the work contains an exhaustive review of the sectors and cultural policies of the Valencian Community, from the moment of its consolidation, in the middle of the eighty years, until 1995. In the last part, the experiences of the autonomous cultural policies are collected and an original classification is presented, which opens up the reality of cultural policy in the Valencian Community.
