The International Biology Olympiads are international competitions in which the participants are secondary school students with a keen interest in biology, creativity, observation skills, critical thinking and tenacity. It originated in the competitions organised by Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland in 1967.

Students selected in the National Phase of the corresponding country can participate in the International Phases.

The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) is held every year, at the beginning of July, and the selected students from more than 70 countries from all five continents take part in it. Students who have started university studies are NOT eligible to apply. The last edition of 2022 was held in the city of Yerevan (Armenia).

The Ibero-American Biology Olympiad (OIAB) began in 2006 with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and Peru. Since then, the rest of the Ibero-American countries have gradually joined the competition. It is also held annually. The last edition, in 2022, it was carried out in telematic format, the responsible country was Peru.
