On November 17, on the occasion of the Valencian Book Day, the Historical Library organizes a continuous reading of the book “Matèria de Bretanya” by Carmelina Sánchez-Cutillas.

In 2000, the Generalitat Valenciana established November 20 as the Valencian Book Day. That same day, but in 1490, the first edition of the work by the Valencian Joanot Martorell Tirant lo Blanc came out of the press of Nicolau Spindeler, according to the conclusion.

Centuries later, in 1975, the writer Carmelina Sánchez-Cutillas received the Andròmina prize within the October Awards for her novel “Matèria de Bretanya”. This emblematic work reveals the world of Altea in the years of the author's childhood. "La mar vivia a una badia molt gran" ("The sea lived in a very large bay"): the first sentence of the book takes us to the magic and tenderness with which memories are accompanied.

To celebrate Valencian Book Day, the Historical Library has organized the continuous reading of this work, which was chosen by the vote in September on the Historical Library's Facebook account. To participate in the reading, you must call 96 162 55 86.

Encourage you to participate in this activity to disseminate our culture. Let's read Carmelina!
