It is important to take into account a series of criteria that allow us to properly select the journal  to which to send the article:

  • The first step would be to identify the journals that publish works with the same or similar subject to ours. Probably the magazines most cited in our work or those we have consulted for its realization will be strong candidates to send our article.
  • We must not forget the evaluation criteria of the main evaluation agencies and bodies  (ANECA).
  • It is advisable to review the average publication time of the manuscripts . Sometimes the review and response process can take months or even years, and this requires revising manuscripts.
  • Electronic availability of the publication. Publications edited electronically, or that have an online version, are more likely to be cited than those that only have a paper version.
  • Costs to publish . Another aspect that can influence the decision of the journal where to publish is the financial cost. Please note that some publications may charge a fee for the number of pages published or because the article contains color images.
Open access publishing also sometimes has costs. Many open access journals charge the authors or the institutions to which they are affiliated, publication fees known as article processing fees (article processing charge). In these cases, the price to publish can vary quite a bit between commercial journal publishers and scientific associations or societies.
