GENERAL

 

How to choose the right library. All UV members are users of any of its libraries. You can consult the directory of libraries here.

Where are each of the libraries located? To locate the libraries and archives consult this information.

Who can use the university libraries? University members, and all the citizens.

Do I need a specific card from the library?  No. To use the library services, it is sufficient to identify yourself with your university card.  The same card is also required to access the library during extraordinary opening periods (24 hours and weekends).

We have to do a group work, where can we go? All libraries (except the Dipòsit Library) have spaces for individual study and group work rooms. You can book a group work cabin via the Affluences website 

How can I contact my library? You can contact us through the “La Biblioteca Respon” service, which is the general inquiry channel for the SBD.

Can I bring food or drinks inside? In general, food and drinks are not allowed in the study rooms, with the exception of water.

What is BUVAL and what are its benefits for UV Library users? BUVAL  is a consortium that brings together the libraries of the public universities in the Valencian Community. Thanks to this collaboration, Universitat de València users can access shared services such as extended interlibrary loan, access to certain electronic resources, and the possibility of consulting collections from other universities. CATALOG TROBES 

 

Where can I check the bibliographic collection of the UV libraries? In Trobes catalog.Type the word or words you want to search for. Search in quotes to find the exact phrase.


OPENING HOURS

 

Does my library open at noon? Does it open on Saturday? Can I study at the library by night? You can check the opening hours. In the event of a weather alert, these opening hours may be subject to change. Please check social media for updated information.


LOAN

 

Who can use the loan service? The entire university community and other groups listed in the lending regulations.

If I'm not an UV member and I want to borrow books, what can I do? You can check the loan regulations. We have agreements with different groups.If this is not the case, you can register in the AlumniUV collective.

How can I get a book or an article that is not in a UV library? You can use interlibrary loan service. This paid service allows you to borrow books, chapters, or articles from other libraries in Spain and abroad

What happens if I return a book after the deadline? ? What if I lost a book? You can check the return and loan regulations.

How can I see the books I have on loan? In "My account" from Trobes catalog.

I have a book on loan, but I need more time. What I can do? Loan renewals are carried out automatically, as long as the item has not been reserved by another user and you are not blocked or have overdue loans. You can always check the expiration date of each updated document in the loans section of My Account. 

I'm interested in a book, but it's borrowed. What I can do? You can reserve a book in Trobes catalog.

Do the library lend any kind of material? In addition to books we provide laptops, padlocks for laptops, lecterns and magnifiers and headphones. Some items are excluded from the lending service.

I am receiving claims for a book I already returned. What I can do?

How many books can I borrow? Loan conditions vary depending on the book and the type of user. Here you can consult each case.

I found a book, but its location is the Deposit Library. How can I borrow it? Deposit Library books are requested doing a reservation.

What is the inter-campus loan service? Can I use it? This service allows you to request books from other UV libraries and pick them up at the nearest one. It is a service for PDI, PAS, Campus d'Ontinyent students, postgraduate students and users with disabilities.

I can not access to "My account". What I can do? Go to your circulation desk library or write to The Library Responds

 

RESOURCES

 

What types of electronic resources are available in the Universitat de València collection? The Universitat de València libraries offer a wide range of resources. These include collections of books and journals (both in print and electronic formats), databases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, electronic press, doctoral theses, and other specialized materials such as rare and special collections, maps, and audiovisual resources.

Can I consult print journals in the libraries? Yes. The Universitat de València libraries hold journal collections in both electronic and print formats. Print journals can be consulted in the reading rooms or, in some cases, requested from storage. To locate them, you can use the Trobes catalogue, which indicates the library and the exact location of each collection.

Can journals be borrowed? In general, print journals are not available for loan, but they can be consulted within the library. In some cases, partial reproduction of articles is allowed in accordance with current regulations.

How can I access the electronic resources of the UV?​ You can access them through Trobes. You have three options:

  • From a computer, connect to the UV network (at the faculty or in the library) with your UV username and password.
  • From your devices connected to EDUROAM.
  • From home by configuring the virtual private network (VPN).

What types of e-resources does the collection of the University of Valencia contain? Among the electronic resources of the UV we can find collections of e-journals, e-books, databases, encyclopedias, dictionaries, e-press, doctoral theses, etc.

Are all the resources paid? No. The collection includes both subscription-based (paid) resources and open-access resources selected for their academic value.

Can I access the e-resources from home? Yes, by configuring the VPN on your computer. Check the instructions.

Can I access the e-resources from my laptop? If you are on campus, you just have to connect your laptop to the Eduroam network. You can ask at the library counter or consult the help of the Eduroam network.

What can I do with e-resources? It is important that you know the allowed and not allowed uses of the contracted electronic resources. On the A/Z portal, you can find information about the permitted uses of each database.

Where can I find the journal Nature? Trobes contains all journals (printed and electronic). You can search for them by limiting by "Resource type: "journal". 

What journals are available for each subject area? Use the option "Material type: Journals" and the camp "Subject" to enclose the journals in a subject area.  The "subjects" in the catalogue always appear in Valencian.

How can I locate a journal article? The articles must be searched in Trobes (with the option RODERIC, articles and more), also in the Dialnet portal, or within each of the electronic journals to which the UV subscribes.
 

I cannot access a e-journal that asks for an username and a password. To whom should I request them?  Some journals require an username and a password. If you're accessing them through the UV network or from a VPN connection, an intermediate screen will appear showing this data.

When trying to download a pdf article, there is a warning saying that my institution does not have a subscription, why? Write us to La Biblioteca Respon. We will try to fix it as soon as we can. 

We are subscribed to the journal Nature, but I cannot download an article from 1982. The subscription does not cover all issues. You must check the issues that appear in the catalogue. 

I want to access an electronic journal from the catalogue, but there are several links. Which one should I use?  Many times we have electronic access to a journal through different portals. Choose the one that covers the issues you need, or the one you're more familiar with. 

We are not subscribed to the journal Nature but a professor has said that it is essential for his subject. To whom should I send a proposal for subscription?  Send us your suggestions to revistas@uv.es, so that we know which titles interest students. 

Can I Know the permitted usages for each electronic book collection? You can check the possibilities of each collection of e-books in this guide, besides useful information such as access links, subjects or avaible mobile aplications.

Are all the ebooks in the catalogue? Trobes contains every ebook. Find them in the search engine and filter by "Resource Type: Book" and "Availability: Online"

What ebook collections are available? You can check our ebook collections in this guide.

Can I download a full ebook? Each collection has a different download policy. Some collections might allow you to download chapters or pages, while others might allow you to print a limited range of pages. Check the guide.

Can I print an ebook chapter? It depends on the collection. Some collections might allow you to download chapters or pages. Check the guide.


What databases do we have for each subject area? You will find in the A/Z portal the databases by subject area.

I have accessed a database but I don't understand how it works. Who can explaint it to me? You can view the database information on the A/Z portal or ask your reference librarian. You can also request a customized training session on a specific resource.

The database does not work, what do I do? Write us to La Biblioteca Respon. We will fix the problem as soon as possible.

When trying to access a database or electronic journal, I get a message saying that access is limited. Why? Some databases only allow a limited number of users to be connected at the same time. It can also happen that someone was connected and did not log off. In these cases, you will have to wait a little: iddle sessions will be disconnected automatically. 

What are OA journals? It's an open access journal.
 

RESEARCH

 

What is Open Science, and how does it affect me as a researcher? Open Science is a model of science that promotes an “open” approach to all stages of the research process and aims to make science and research more accessible to everyone.

Do you know what a repository is? Repositories and open-access digital archives are virtual spaces, supported by databases, where scientific documents of all kinds and formats can be deposited. Their main objective is to organize, store, preserve, and disseminate in open access the intellectual output resulting from an institution’s academic and research activity.

Does the UV have a repository? RODERIC is the institutional repository of the Universitat de València, which gives access to and diffusion to the university's digital output.

Where can I find the University of Valencia’s research output? The University of Valencia Research Output Portal brings together the University of Valencia’s research output, providing visibility and transparency regarding its research activity through the results and analysis of its impact.

Are the repository and the Scientific Output Portal connected? NO, they are independent infrastructures that operate in parallel. The RODERIC repository is fed by content deposited in GREC, while the Scientific Output Portal draws directly from WoS, Scopus, and Dialnet. For ANECA evaluation, depositing in a repository (RODERIC or any thematic or general repository) is valued.

Do you know what a journal’s editorial policy is? Journal editorial policies define the permissions that authors usually grant as part of the copyright transfer agreement to each publisher. A useful tool to check journal policies is the JISC Open Policy Finder.

How can I find the Impact Factor of a journal? The FI is calculated by dividing the number of citations made to articles published in the previous two years by the total number of articles published in that period. We find it in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Consult the guide.

I need help to publish an article The libraries of the Universitat de València advise researchers on the choice of journals where to publish (and where not to publish) their work, on the use of institutional repositories for the dissemination of their publications and on the management of copyright and research data.

Do you know what an APC (Article Processing Charge) is? APCs are fees charged by publishers to authors to publish in open access. These costs may be covered by the author, their institution, or the funding body.

Is there a discount for publishing in open access? The University of Valencia has agreements with some publishers to support open access (OA) publishing.

Have you heard of “predatory journals”? Predatory journals publish research articles without applying standard academic quality controls, such as peer review, meaning that published articles may lack academic validity. To help identify them, we recommend consulting our guide.

Do you know what research data are? Research data include all materials collected, analyzed, and created during the research process that support the results. More information is available in the guide.

Do you know what a Data Management Plan is? A DMP describes strategies for collecting, processing, archiving, preserving, and publishing data in a research project. For more information, see our guide.

Can I access the library’s research guides? You can find all the research guides produced by the libraries of the University of Valencia via this link.

I need an article and but the journal does not appear in the University of Valencia's catalogue. What can I do?  You can go to the interlibrary loan service. It is a paid service offered by the library to borrow books, chapters or journal articles that are not available in the collections.

I am doing the doctoral thesis and I need to consult a journal article but it is not in electronic format. What can I do?  Use the Supply of pdf Journal Articles Service.This service supplies by email the articles of journals of the libraries of the University of Valencia that do not have electronic version. It is intended for research staff at the Universitat de València.

 

ACQUISITIONS

 

Can I request a book purchase? Yes, purchase requests are carried out from the purchase request form that you will find on the Trobes search engine web page.

Who can request a book purchase? All UV members

What if the book I have requested is out of print? You can use interlibrary loan.

Can I request an electronic book? Yes.

Is all the bibliography that appears in the teaching guides purchased?? The library is committed to having 100% of the basic bibliography recommended by the faculty in the teaching guides of each academic year, as long as it is available for sale. The acquisition of the complementary recommended bibliography is subject to assessment..

How can I know the status of my purchase suggestions? Check the catalog, in Purchase Request area inside "My account".

I want to request a book purchase but I do not have all the data. The acquisitions section will check and complete every request.


TRAINING
 

Can I request a training course? Yes, you can request a course using the training form at your library.

Is there any online training course? Library and Documentation Service give students online training in information and computer skills through two online courses with recognition of ECTS credits in some degree programs.

What are thematic guides? They are a selection of information resources organized by subject areas. Here you have a list.

 

HISTORICAL COLLECTION

 

What is the rare and special collections and where is it held? Rare and special collections consist of old, valuable, or unique documents (manuscripts, incunabula, early printed books, maps, etc.). At the Universitat de València, these materials are held in several specialized libraries, including the Historical Library, the Medical History Library, and the Map Library, as well as in the University Archive.

How can I request a copy of an rare and special collection work?  Conditions (type of reproduction, fees, etc.) may vary depending on the library. You can find detailed information about the reproduction of documents in the Historical Library. There is a form to request the reproduction.  Information about the Map Library and the Medical History Library can be found in their respective links.

I am interested in consulting a historical collection volume. Check the access and consultation regulations.

How can I locate old digitized UV documents (with full text)? In the catalog. You just have to do a search and choose the option "Old background" from the drop-down.

 

ARCHIVE

 

Where can I find information about the services, collections, and functions of the University Archive?
On the University Archive website of the Universitat de València, you can find all the information about its services, the documentary collections it preserves, and its functions.

What is the University Archive Portal? The University Archive Portal is an online tool that allows the public and researchers to access information about documents and records preserved by the Universitat de València, from 1562 to the present day.

What can I consult in the University Archive Portal? The portal allows users to search for and locate documents and records generated by the administration of the Universitat de València, as well as those coming from donations, deposits, transfers, and bequests preserved in the University Archive.
