On Friday, 5 December 2025, the 1st Forum on Jurisdiction and Argumentation in Human Rights will take place within the framework of the “Argumenta DH” project, coordinated by the Human Rights Institute of the University of Valencia. During the event, the preliminary results of the project’s first report will be presented. The report analyses 311 judgments issued in Spain with the aim of examining how international human rights law is applied by judicial bodies.

During the forum, the “ArgumentaDH” recognition for good argumentative practices in human rights will be awarded to Magistrate Glòria Poyatos, President of the Social Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands and founding member of the Association of Women Judges of Spain, in acknowledgement of her extensive work in integrating a human rights perspective into the Spanish judicial sphere.

Throughout her distinguished career, Poyatos has stood out for promoting the application of various human rights approaches —including gender, childhood, and disability perspectives— not only through the incorporation of international legislation applicable to these groups, but also in her very method of judicial reasoning, taking into account the structural forms of discrimination that affect them. Her approach also extends to the drafting of judgments, which she adapts to ensure accessible reading for the parties. The recognition she will receive positions her as a leading figure in the substantive application of international human rights standards within Spanish legal practice.

Magistrate Glòria Poyatos will deliver the lecture “Taking Human Rights Seriously”, followed by a round table on human rights advocacy featuring specialists from Save the Children, Fundación Raíces, Plena Inclusión, and the law firm Medusa Abogadas.
