Today, February 11, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a day to acknowledge the essential role women play in scientific development and to encourage scientific vocations among younger generations.

To mark this occasion, several libraries have organised special activities. At the Science Library, a thematic display dedicated to women scientists has been set up, while the Health area is also taking part in the celebration with a small exhibition in our space “There’s a Topic Here!”, featuring materials that highlight women’s contributions to science and health.

In addition, the new signage at the Science Library has recently been inaugurated, a project that reinforces this commitment to making women scientists more visible. The 16 group study rooms have now been given proper names: each one is named after an internationally renowned woman scientist. This initiative, promoted by the library itself, aims to give visibility to women’s work in science and to turn study spaces into places full of role models.

Because studying surrounded by role models also matters.
