On May 7, 2025, the Governing Council of the BUVAL Consortium (Valencian University Libraries) held its first session of the year, during which several important agreements were approved that directly affect the University of Valencia.
First, the Council unanimously approved the change of institutional affiliation of the BUVAL Consortium to the University of Valencia, in accordance with the provisions of its Statutes. This new period of affiliation will run from May 11, 2025, to May 10, 2029, taking over from the Universitat Jaume I, which had served as the host institution during the Consortium’s first four years.
Second, and also unanimously, the Council approved the appointment of the Director of the University of Valencia’s Library and Documentation Service, Cristina Tomás Martínez, as the Technical Director of the BUVAL Consortium, as outlined in Article 15 of the Statutes.
In addition, it was agreed that the same Director will also serve as Secretary of the BUVAL Consortium’s Governing Council, representing the University of Valencia, in accordance with Articles 8.3 and 9.e) of the Statutes.
With this dual appointment, the University of Valencia strengthens its commitment to the development and consolidation of the BUVAL project — a strategic initiative for cooperation among the libraries of the public universities in the Valencian Community.
The Director expressed her enthusiasm and gratitude for this new stage, acknowledging the work carried out by the Universitat Jaume I during the Consortium’s initial years. She also offered special recognition to Vicent Falomir and Paloma Garrido for their dedication and commitment, as well as to Carlos Hermenegildo, Vice-Rector for Research, for his support and leadership.
The BUVAL Consortium was established on May 11, 2021, with the signing of an agreement by the five rectors of the Valencian public universities. Its goal is to coordinate library services and resources to better serve the academic community. More information at: http://buval.es
