How to plan publications

A new item or any other automatic publication element, i.e. one that does not require physical placement in the editing structure, can be published indefinitely, or assigned a start and/or end date of publication.
The function is very simple and useful, as it allows a greater rotation of publications, and therefore more dynamism on the web, and at the same time prevents news of a defined temporality, such as announcements or previews, from becoming outdated. When setting up any publication (news, newsletter, activity, etc.), at the top of the screen you will find a menu with two options: 'Content' and 'Metadata'. When clicking on Metadata you will find, among other fields, those for 'Start date' and 'End date'. In these fields you can even enter the time of publication or completion. You can schedule this at any time while the publication is being created and it does not interrupt the editing process.

On the other hand, it is important to pay close attention to the dates and times we specify when scheduling the publication. There have been cases in which an editor has mistakenly written an end date prior to the start date and the news has not been published. It should also be borne in mind that when a publication is created, a mandatory field called 'Date of publication' appears on the content tab. This mandatory field, which only refers to the date on which the publication was created, should not be confused with the 'Start date' field on the Metadata tab, which refers to the date on which it will start to be published.

Another issue that has to be addressed is the reuse of already published news, a common practice among publishers. If a new item or any other publication is reused to update it or to give it priority in the order of publication, we must make sure in the 'Metadata' tab that it does not have an end date, since in that case, no matter how many times we update the publication date, it will not appear published if the end date has expired.
