Ayuntamiento de Valencia’s área de Igualdad, Diversidad y Políticas inclusivas and UV’s Gandia International Centre organise this contest with the goal of contributing to illustrate, comprehend and disseminate feminism. Both institutions announce this first short story contest under the motto Perspectivas de poder en femenino (power perspectives in feminine). A motto inspired by a quote from Mary Wollstonecraft: “I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves”. Moreover, this contest seeks to favour the interpretation of reality and the current problems of society from a feminist standpoint.
The contest is open to all adults. An original and unpublished short story with a maximum extension of 400 words (excluding the title) is to be submitted. Works can be written in either Spanish or Valencian. Participants will be allowed to submit their work only if inspired by the motto of the call. The submission deadline is November 13th (starting from November 1st) and stories must be sent to: igualtatidonagandia@gmail.com
The jury will be composed of City Council of Gandia’s Councillor of Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies Juana Navarro; Writer Àngels Gregori and Professor of UV’s Department of Spanish Jesús Peris. Two monetary prizes are established in the call: 300€ for the first one and 200€ for the second one. Both will be given during an official ceremony on November 25th.
