If you have the Spanish Bachillerato certificate, you must pass the PAU or EBAU (university entrance examinations).

The PAU or EBAU exams have two phases: one compulsory (with indefinite validity) and one voluntary (valid for two consecutive academic years following the exams).

The compulsory phase includes five exams: Spanish language, Valencian language, first foreign language (German, English, French or Italian), History of Spain and a general core subject of modality of the second year of Bachillerato (Fundamentals of Art II, Latin II, Mathematics applied to Social Sciences II or Mathematics II). The foreign language must have been studied in Bachillerato, as well as the rest of the subjects of this phase. The mark for this compulsory phase is the average of those 5 subjects and must be equal to or higher than 4 points.

The voluntary phase includes a maximum of 4 exams. Students can choose between the following subjects in the second year of Bachillerato: general core subjects of modality or option, studied or not (except the general core subject of modality examined in the compulsory phase of the same exam session); a second foreign language, studied or not, between German, English, French or Italian (except the foreign language examined in the compulsory phase). The subject will be considered passed, and therefore may be considered for weightning, as long as its grade is equal to or higher than 5 points.

The university entrance mark (NAU) is calculated by taking the cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) and the calculated average of the marks of the five compulsory phase PAU exams (40%), provided that it is equal to or higher than four points.

University entrance mark (NAU) = cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) + average mark of the PAU compulsory phase (40%).

The university admission mark (NAT) is obtained by increasing the university entrance mark (NAU) with the marks obtained in the subjects of the PAU voluntary phase, after multiplying them by the corresponding weighting coefficients.

University admission mark (NAT) = NAU + [weighting x M1 PAU voluntary phase] + [weighting x M2 PAU voluntary phase]

In order to calculate the NAT (university admission mark for an specific degree), weightings (0.1 and 0.2), which are multiplier coefficients set by the universities, are used. They can be consulted on the website of the Universitat de València and on the website of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment.

M1 and M2 correspond to the two grades for the specific subjects of modality and languages of the voluntary phase or for the core subject of modality and language of the compulsory phase which, considering weightings, provide the student with the best university entrance mark. This can add up to 4 more points the admission mark for the university degrees.

The admission mark for university degrees may be different depending on which degree you have applied for in the pre-enrolment, since in each case the grades of the subjects examined in the voluntary phase may be weighted differently (0.1 and 0.2).

Weightings are multiplier coefficients used to calculate the university admission marks (NAT). These coefficients are related to the relationship of each subject to each degree programme. Weightings can be: 0, 0.1 or 0.2. The subject weighting charts are set by each university for each of its degree programmes.

They can be consulted on the website of the Universitat de València and on the website of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment. It is advisable to consult them for each academic year, as they may vary from year to year. It should also be taken into account that they may not coincide in all universities.

If a student takes the same subject in different calls, the pre-enrolment computer assistant will take the marks that give a better admission mark, but will be careful not to choose the same subject examined in different calls. It will select different subjects.

The NAU obtained in June cannot be improved by taking the extraordinary exam in the same year. These marks of the extraordinary phase, if they are better than the marks of the ordinary phase, will only be valid for the following year, but not for the year in which the tests are held.

Preference for allocating university places is given to students who have passed the entrance exam in previous years and who pass the ordinary PAU exam in June, as opposed to those who pass the PAU in the extraordinary exam in July.

The dates of the PAU/EBAU exams for access in the academic year 2024-25 will be 4, 5 and 6 June 2024 for the ordinary call and 2, 3 and 4 July 2024 for the extraordinary call.

It is necessary to go to the centre where you studied Bachillerato. If the centre is in another autonomous community, the registration and enrolment in the PAU must be done from the Students Service of the Universitat de València (av. Blasco Ibáñez, 13. 46010 Valencia).

The grades of the compulsory phase do not expire. The grades of the voluntary phase will be valid for two consecutive academic years following the exams. The general core subject of modality and the foreign language examined in the compulsory phase do not expire for the calculation of the NAU, but for the calculation of the NAT they are only valid for the two consecutive academic years following the exams.

Yes, you can repeat the PAU in July, either in its entirety or in any of the two phases (if it is compulsory, it must be the complete phase with the 5 subjects). It is the admission procedure that serves to order, by access mark, those students who apply for a place in a degree. Pre-enrolment is essential in order to obtain a place at a public university.

The Valencian university district is composed of the places offered by the degree programmes of the five Valencian public universities: Universitat de València, Universitat Politècnica de València, Universitat Jaume I de Castelló, Universitat d'Alacant and  Universitat Miguel Hernández d'Elx.

For the purposes of entrance and admission procedures, the public universities of each autonomous community are constituted as a single university district, which means that students must make a single pre-enrolment application in which they must determine, in order of preference, the studies they wish to begin from among all those offered by the universities of the autonomous community.

Admitted students will receive, at the e-mail address they have indicated in the pre-enrolment application, a message including the student's enrolment period and instructions.

Regardless of the autonomous community where you have taken the university entrance exams (PAU, EBAU, EVAU) you can apply for a place in any degree programme at any Spanish public university. The total number of places offered by public universities of the State as a whole make up what is known as an open university district.

It should be borne in mind that each autonomous community organises and manages its own pre-enrolment, i.e. it allocates places at its public universities. Therefore, if you want to apply for a place in a degree programme at a university belonging to another autonomous community, you must pre-enrol in that autonomous community and be aware of how it works and its deadlines. Several pre-enrolments can be made at the same time.

In order to pre-enrol for a bachelor's degree at Valencian public universities, it is necessary to fulfil one of these academic circumstances (requirements or entrance procedures):

• Bachillerato with passed PAU.
• Advanced vocational training technician certificates, advanced plastic arts and design technician, advanced sports technician, or equivalent.

In order to regulate access to university each academic year, for all the aforementioned entrance procedures, there is a single call for pre-enrolment each year.

The deadline for pre-registration always begins on a date after the resolution of the PAU, normally at the beginning of the second half of June.

• High-performance athlete status (only for those recognised by the Spanish Sports Council).

The possibility of choosing a group will be lost. It is understood that the place has been renounced if, at the end of the enrolment period, the interested party has not enrolled.

It is crucial. Degrees should be ranked in order of preference, i.e. the one that interests you most first, followed by the rest. When you are allocated a place in one degree programme, you no longer have a choice in the other degrees below the degree programme awarded. On the contrary, in the degrees that are above the awarded degree programme, you will be on the waiting list.

If you have obtained a place that was not the one you applied for in the first place, you may remain on the waiting list in those degree programmes ordered in the pre-enrolment application before the degree programme which you have been admitted.

Each university manages waiting lists differently. It is important to pay attention to this.

When a degree has all the places filled, a waiting list is generated. At the Universitat de València, a student will be on as many waiting lists as the number of degrees they have applied for in the pre-enrolment process, above the degree programme to which they have been admitted. The order on the list corresponds to the student's admission mark for that degree. If vacancies occur in the enrolment, the places are offered to students who are on the waiting list

Attention should be paid to the way in which waiting lists are managed in each university, because the way they work is not the same.

At the Universitat de València, the call for applications of the waiting list is not face-to-face and must be consulted on the Universitat's website. To be able to participate in the allocation of places in each call, it is necessary to confirm your interest in continuing on the waiting list for each allocation and each of the degrees on which you are on the list. If this confirmation is not made, you will lose the option to be admitted to that degree and to participate in the remaining awards.

No, if a place is obtained in the fourth degree of choice, the student may be on the waiting list of the three degrees that they have placed first in the pre-enrolment application, but never in those that they have placed behind; in other words, they cannot be on the waiting lists of the fifth or the sixth degree.

If after having done this enrolment you get a place in any other degree of the same university or a different one, the initial registration is automatically cancelled if both degrees are from the UV. The cut-off mark of a degree is the mark of the last student admitted to that degree programme. Pre-registration orders the applications for a degree programme by ranking the admission marks from highest to lowest. Since it also allocates all the places offered for each degree, the cut-off mark will be the admisison mark of the student who is awarded the last place in the pre-enrolment procedure.

At the Universitat de València, in each of the waiting list calls, a new ranking of grades is carried out. Thus, the resolution of the pre-enrolment plus each of the calls, leads to a new list of cut-off marks.

In any case, the cut-off marks that serve to guide students and to know what the mark of the last person admitted was, must be the list of cut-off marks that is generated when places are awarded by pre-enrolment. The other three lists are not illustrative, as they respond to the resignations or vacancies that occur each year and which, logically, are not the same from year to year.

People with a university degree, degree or official master’s degree can pre-enrol for any degree offered by the Universitat de València. There is a quota reserved for people with university degrees. Their entrance mark will be the average mark of their degree.

Yes, as long as it is recognised or equivalent of the university degree granted by the Spanish Ministry of Universities. This ministry must also process the certificate with the equivalence of the average grades of university studies carried out abroad. Both procedures can be done online from the website of the Spanish Ministry of Universities.

Yes, although it is important to differentiate whether the pre-university qualification has been obtained in a European Union country or in a country with a university access agreement, or whether it has been obtained in countries that do not belong to the European Union or do not have an access agreement.

This group and future students with a qualification from Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and China, students who have completed a European or international upper secondary school education will be able to access Valencian public universities through the access and admission procedure regulated by UNEDasiss, a UNED (National Distance Education University) service created to manage the access and admission of foreign students to Spanish universities.

These groups will need the accreditation issued by UNEDassis. This accreditation certifies the average mark of the pre-university qualification obtained by the future student in their country of origin. Equivalent in the NAU (university entrance mark, up to 10 points).

It is possible to request certification of the grades obtained in external assessment tests carried out in the country of origin (and which must necessarily appear in the UNED accreditation) or to take the Specific Competency Tests (PCE). The marks obtained in their external assessment tests (certified by the UNED) or the PCE, will be used to apply the weightings and raise up to 14 points the university admission mark (NAT).

People coming from education systems in the United Kingdom will be able to access Spanish universities with the same procedure as people coming from education systems in the European Union, as long as they fulfil the requirements demanded in their education systems to access their universities.

First of all, it is necessary that their pre-university studies are recognised ("homologación") in accordance with the procedure established by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

They must then request their accreditation from the UNEDassis, which will assess the average mark of the academic record by a maximum of 6 points and will be the university admission mark (NAT). UNEDassis organises Specific Competency Tests (PCE): these are examinations in specific subjects. The PCE is necessary for those who wish to improve their university admission mark.

Since 4 May 2023 there has been established a reciprocal application agreement between Spain and Colombia that states that if, as a Colombian student, you find yourself in this academic circumstance, you are not required to naturalise you pre-university studies to the Spanish equivalent (bachiller). You can directly apply to UNEDassis for accreditation and can obtain up to 10 accreditation points. Yes. Validating credits studied in another degree or university in a new degree is called the academic credit recognition procedure.

It is possible to recognise:

• At least 36 credits corresponding to core subjects, if the destination degree belongs to the same branch as the degree of origin.
• Other credits corresponding to core subjects belonging to the branch of destination.
• All other credits, provided that there is a match between the competences and knowledge in the subjects of origin and those that make up the destination degree.
• Under no circumstances will credits corresponding to bachelor's and master's degree final projects be recognised.

If you want to leave one degree and enrol in another, you must re-apply for a place in the new degree by means of pre-registration. However, there is an extraordinary admission procedure for the change of studies through which the centres offer a very reduced number of places. Yes, these are the so-called regulated professions. The practice of some regulated professional activities - nursing, teaching, etc. - requires a specific degree qualification. Other professions - secondary education teacher, lawyer, etc. - require a specific official master's degree.

Yes. Mobility is a recommended practice in university education. There are several programmes that encourage students to stay in other higher education institutions in Spain and abroad: Erasmus, SICUE, etc. In addition, the Universitat de València offers a wide range of international exchanges to promote mobility.

The Universitat de València's regulations require that, in order to continue with the degree in which you have enrolled, at least 12 ECTS credits must be passed.

If it is a double degree, the requirement is 48 ECTS credits passed, and if these are not passed, the student will not be able to continue in the double degree, but will be able to continue in any of the two degrees that make up the double degree.

The Universitat de València has, in some of its degrees, teaching groups in English in which at least 50% of the classes are taught in English. On the other hand, for foreign students it is required knowledge of Spanish (level B2, certified by a body recognised by ACLES and verified and validated in the accreditation issued by UNED) or Valencian (level B2 from the University of Valencia, from another university belonging to CIEACOVA or from the Qualifying Board of the Generalitat Valenciana, verified and validated in the accreditation issued by UNED) for the degrees in the following subjects:
