BUVAL

On September 25, 2026, the Consortium of Valencian University Libraries (BUVAL) participated in the in-person meeting of the Consortium and Purchasing Groups Committee, held at the University of Cádiz and organized by the Consortium of Andalusian University Libraries (CBUA). The meeting brought together representatives from the leading Spanish university library consortia and networks to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to access to scientific information and research support services.

BUVAL was represented by its technical director, Cristina Tomás (University of Valencia), and by Alejandro Gadea (University of Valencia), delegate of BUVAL’s Technical Commission to the Consortium Roundtable. Their participation allowed them to share the experience and needs of Valencian university libraries in key areas for the development of library and research support services.

The workshop addressed three issues of particular relevance to university and scientific libraries: the follow-up on the CRUE-CSIC Transformative Agreements with major scientific publishers; the viability and challenges of “diamond” journals as a model for scientific publication; and the debate on new research support tools and services beyond traditional resources.

In addition to BUVAL, representatives participated from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Network of Spanish University and Scientific Libraries (REBIUN), the Consortium of University Services of Catalonia (CSUC), the CBUA itself—which hosted the meeting— and the Madroño Consortium, which brings together the public universities of the Community of Madrid and the UNED.

These types of meetings provide a vital forum for coordination among consortia, the exchange of experiences, and the definition of common strategies in response to changes affecting scientific communication, the management of electronic resources, and research support services. BUVAL’s participation reinforces its commitment to library cooperation.
