Crue and the CSIC sign an agreement with Elsevier to publish articles by Spanish scientists in open access

Crue Spanish Universities and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) have signed an agreement with Elsevier to publish in open access articles by researchers from Spanish universities and the CSIC that have been accepted as of January 1, 2021. In addition, in this agreement, the signatory entities maintain access to the contents of the ScienceDirect platform of scientific journals of the Dutch publisher.

 With this transformative agreement, the first of its kind at the national level, Crue complies with the commitment assumed by its General Assembly of February 2019 regarding the promotion of Open Science by publishing the results of the work in open access. carried out by researchers at universities. For its part, the CSIC, the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe, promotes its Open Science strategy by promoting open access to its research results through the transformation of its subscription licenses, an initiative that It has already made it possible to reach agreements of this nature with different international scientific publishers.

Specifically, the agreement with Elsevier affects a total of 58 universities and the CSIC, responsible for more than 70% of scientific production in Spain. Thus, until December 31, 2024, the members of these Spanish institutions will be able to continue accessing the information of the 1,800 ScienceDirect journals and will also be able to publish a percentage of the proposed articles openly and at no additional cost during 2021.

The Dutch publisher Elsevier is a world leader in information and information analysis for researchers and institutions. The Libraries and Documentation Service of the University of Valencia has subscribed to the publisher's magazine and electronic book collections since 2003, with annual downloads of 649,818 magazine articles.
