On the occasion of World Book Day, celebrated on April 23, the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació of the Universitat de València has organised a special programme of activities running throughout the week, from April 20 to 25, aimed at the university community.
Among the highlights, the Biblioteca de Ciències Socials will once again bring the library outdoors on April 23, offering an open-air reading space and giving paper roses to users who borrow books that day.
Meanwhile, the Biblioteca de Ciències de la Salut will set up a space in the hall with a special selection of books and will give away library merchandise to users who make use of the loan service during the week.
At the Biblioteca d’Humanitats, the awards ceremony for the micro-story contest will take place on April 23. The event will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room.
At the Biblioteca de Ciències, on April 23, a selection of themed books will be displayed on the first floor and in the Pharmacy area to mark World Book Day. In addition, users who borrow items that day will receive a library tote bag.
The Biblioteca de Psicologia i Esport will host an original and engaging initiative: a mysterious book exhibition. This activity will consist of presenting wrapped books so that their identity remains hidden. The items will only be distinguished by labels indicating their genre or theme, without revealing the title or author. In this way, users are invited to choose their reading blindly, guided by curiosity and chance.
In addition, the Biblioteca d’Educació has organised the talk “Memory without ink: the Roma people through their voices”, an initiative aimed at highlighting the history, culture and heritage of the Roma people through their own words.
The session will provide an overview of some of the key events that have shaped the history of the Roma people, from their origins and their presence in Spain since the 15th century to the policies of persecution, forms of exclusion and strategies of resistance that have built their collective memory.
The talk will take place on April 23 at 4:30 p.m. on the library terrace and will be delivered by Santiago Vicente Llavata and Donatella Donato. The activity, which will last approximately one hour, will include a discussion session open to questions from the audience.
With this programme, the Universitat de València reaffirms its commitment as a space of knowledge to promoting reading and fostering a more plural, fair and inclusive understanding of human experiences.
