JBP 2026

On 29 June, the Biblioteca de Ciències Socials Gregori Maians hosted the 2026 Best Practices Conference of the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació of the Universitat de València, an event aimed at sharing experiences, projects and initiatives developed by staff from the different libraries and units of the Service.

The conference was opened by Isabel Fariñas, Vice-Rector for Research and Scientific Policy, who welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of promoting spaces for participation and knowledge exchange within the University.

This was followed by the keynote lecture "Fake News y Desinformación", delivered by Carla Sentí, who addressed the current challenges posed by the spread of false or misleading information and the role of information professionals in promoting critical thinking and media literacy.

The event continued with the presentation of the best practices selected by the working group responsible for organising the conference. The selection was made from among the 23 practices submitted by Service staff, based on criteria such as innovation, impact, transferability, sustainability, strategic alignment, user orientation and collaboration.

The selected experiences were:

• Tot un servei de biblioteques aprenent i aplicant IA junts, presented by Candela Gimeno, Rosana Toledo and José Valverde.
• Col·laboració amb el professorat en la Biblioteca d’Humanitats Joan Reglà: una via de visibilització de projectes d’innovació educativa i investigació, presented by Eva Montilla.
• Biblioteca al jardí, presented by Paz Belda, Sheila Miñano and Blanca López.
• Createca, presented by Luisa Vidal.
• Snacks de salut, presented by Antonia Jara.

Following a coffee break and the institutional group photograph, the conference continued with the presentation of the Erasmus experience “Pathways to Open: University Libraries in a Changing Environment. Erasmus Stay at Utrecht University Library”, delivered by Beatriz Climent and M. Luisa Estela, who shared the knowledge and insights gained during their professional stay in the Netherlands.

The 23 submitted best practices were also put to a vote by all staff of the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació to determine the recipient of the “El Xano és per...” award. The prize was awarded to Biblioteca al jardí in recognition of its innovative character and its contribution to enhancing the visibility of library services.

The conference closed with remarks from Cristina Tomás, Director of the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació, who thanked all participants for their involvement and emphasised the importance of sharing best practices to promote mutual learning, collaboration and the continuous improvement of the services provided by the SBD to the university community.
