The Historical Archive of the University of Valencia has recovered 81 historical documents that were in the archives of the University of Zaragoza. The director of the University Library of Zaragoza, Cristina Seguí, has sent us the documents discovered by the director of the "Maria Moliner" Humanities Library, Matilde Cantín, in the personal archive of Carlos Riba García, who was a professor at both universities.

Carlos Riba García, born and educated in Zaragoza, competed in 1904 for the chair of Modern and Contemporary Universal History in Valencia, where he settled and taught for twenty-five years. At the age of 57 he returned to Zaragoza, where he began teaching in 1929, to become dean of his Faculty from 1939 until his death in 1949.

He was an enthusiast of the figure of Juan Luis Vives: he favoured the creation of a chair at the University of Valencia dedicated to the memory of the humanist, and was very active in the dissemination of university affairs, about Valencia and about Zaragoza. He was a member of the editorial board of "Anales de la Universidad de Valencia", where he published "El antiguo patrimonio de la Universidad de Valencia (1492-1845)" in 1922. He participated in the layout of the new building of the Facultad de Letras of the University City, which he inaugurated, taking special care of the library's layout. Now, the staff of that same library have catalogued his personal archive and have located the documents referring to the University of Valencia. These 18th and 19th century documents will now form part of the University Archive of the University of Valencia.
