The Library of Humanities Joan has received a collection of books on Japan from the Read Japan Project to support Japanese Studies programs at UV as well as students and researchers interested in Japan from a variety of disciplines across the university.
The application submitted by Dr. Marcos Centeno from the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication in coordination with the Library of Humanities, was approved thanks to a recommendation from the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona, which has acted as an intermediary as an official office of the Japanese government abroad.
The objective of Read Japan Project is to promote understanding of Japan by donating Japan-related books in English-language to universities and libraries around the world. The project is administered by the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research and is financially supported by Nippon Foundation, with collaboration from the Japan Publishing Industry Foundation for Culture (JPIC) which has been in charge of the shipment of the books to Valencia. The collection has 182 titles that have been selected by professors who teach Japan-related subjects at UV (Marcos Centeno, Raúl Fortes , Amparo Montaner, Jordi Serrano, Jordi Tordera) with the participation of researchers and students. Also, the Read Japan Project has granted another donation of books to the UV Language Center aimed at Japanese language students. The total donation of the Read Japan Project at UV has an estimated value of around €20,000 in books.
