European Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficit Day
Face-to-face

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the UV is hosting an information stand in the lobby to raise awareness about this rare respiratory disease.

The Universitat de València, along with the Research Group on Rare Respiratory Diseases - ERR led by Francisco Dasí (Department of Physiology), celebrates the European Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficit Day (DAAT), this Friday, April 24, with an event which aims to make this rare disease visible, raise awareness and make it known.

The UV Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry will set up an information table in its lobby from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., aimed at healthcare professionals, students, and the entire university community.

The DAAT is a rare inherited condition characterized by low plasma levels of AAT, which increases the risk of developing respiratory and liver diseases. Despite its clinical impact, it is an underdiagnosed condition, as it is estimated that only a small proportion of those affected (around 10%) are identified, which delays access to appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic measures.

Through this initiative, which also aims to promote early diagnosis and the identification of at-risk patients, the results of new research will be shared, such as the recent set of guidelines developed by a large group of healthcare professionals from across Spain, in which scientific evidence further underscores the importance of strengthening strategies for the detection and clinical management of the disease.
