The University of Valencia (UV) has entered the group of six Spanish universities that lead the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to THE University Impact Rankings, a world ranking of the performance of higher education institutions for this purpose. In addition, the UV rises to the European rank 33-76 (in 2021 it was in 113th place) and is among the 200 best universities in the world, as well as being the only Valencian centre in the ranking.

In September 2015, the UN agreed on a set of global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity as part of the 2030 Agenda. Among these goals are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with specific goals that must be met for 15 years.

The University of Valencia has gone from appearing in the rank 5-11 in 2021, to the 1-6 in this edition, and has done so in a context in which the participating institutions are 630 more than last year, now reaching 1,745.

This ranking, prepared by the Times Higher Education magazine, celebrates its fourth edition this year. At the Spanish level, the first positions, in addition to the University of Valencia, are for the universities of Murcia, Barcelona, Girona, Jaén and the Rovira i Virgili. On a global scale, Western Sydney University, Arizona State University (Tempe) and Western University of Canada top the list. In Europe, the ranking is led by the University of Newcastle, the University of Manchester and the University of Glasgow.

Among others, the UN objectives are to end poverty, reach zero hunger and improve in matters such as food security, health and education, until achieving real gender equality, passing through other goals on water and sanitation, energy, economic growth or reduction of inequalities between countries and within them.
