Access from Spanish Bachillerato / Advanced Vocational Training
-
Which are the university entry requirements if you have studied the Bachillerato (upper secondary school education) in the Spanish education system?
If you have the Spanish Bachillerato certificate, you must pass the PAU or EBAU (university entrance examinations).
-
What is the structure of the PAU or EBAU?
The PAU or EBAU exams have two phases: one compulsory (with indefinite validity) and one voluntary (valid for two consecutive academic years following the exams).
-
What subjects are examined in the compulsory phase?
The compulsory phase includes five exams: Spanish language, Valencian language, first foreign language (German, English, French or Italian), History of Spain and a general core subject of modality of the second year of Bachillerato (Fundamentals of Art II, Latin II, Mathematics applied to Social Sciences II or Mathematics II). The foreign language must have been studied in Bachillerato, as well as the rest of the subjects of this phase. The mark for this compulsory phase is the average of those 5 subjects and must be equal to or higher than 4 points.
-
What subjects are examined in the voluntary phase?
The voluntary phase includes a maximum of 4 exams. Students can choose between the following subjects in the second year of Bachillerato: general core subjects of modality or option, studied or not (except the general core subject of modality examined in the compulsory phase of the same exam session); a second foreign language, studied or not, between German, English, French or Italian (except the foreign language examined in the compulsory phase). The subject will be considered passed, and therefore may be considered for weightning, as long as its grade is equal to or higher than 5 points.
-
What is the university entrance mark?
The university entrance mark (NAU) is calculated by taking the cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) and the calculated average of the marks of the five compulsory phase PAU exams (40%), provided that it is equal to or higher than four points.
University entrance mark (NAU) = cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) + average mark of the PAU compulsory phase (40%).
-
What is the university admission mark (NAT)?
The university admission mark (NAT) is obtained by increasing the university entrance mark (NAU) with the marks obtained in the subjects of the PAU voluntary phase, after multiplying them by the corresponding weighting coefficients.
-
How is the NAT calculated?
University admission mark (NAT) = NAU + [weighting x M1 PAU voluntary phase] + [weighting x M2 PAU voluntary phase]
In order to calculate the NAT (university admission mark for an specific degree), weightings (0.1 and 0.2), which are multiplier coefficients set by the universities, are used. They can be consulted on the website of the Universitat de València and on the website of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment.
M1 and M2 correspond to the two grades for the specific subjects of modality and languages of the voluntary phase or for the core subject of modality and language of the compulsory phase which, considering weightings, provide the student with the best university entrance mark. This can add up to 4 more points the admission mark for the university degrees.
-
Is the NAT different for each university degree?
The admission mark for university degrees may be different depending on which degree you have applied for in the pre-enrolment, since in each case the grades of the subjects examined in the voluntary phase may be weighted differently (0.1 and 0.2).
-
What are weightings?
Weightings are multiplier coefficients used to calculate the university admission marks (NAT). These coefficients are related to the relationship of each subject to each degree programme. Weightings can be: 0, 0.1 or 0.2. The subject weighting charts are set by each university for each of its degree programmes.
-
Where can I consult the weightings of the subjects?
They can be consulted on the website of the Universitat de València and on the website of the Department of Education, Universities and Employment. It is advisable to consult them for each academic year, as they may vary from year to year. It should also be taken into account that they may not coincide in all universities.
-
Can two marks for the same subject from different PAU exams be used in the weightings?
If a student takes the same subject in different calls, the pre-enrolment computer assistant will take the marks that give a better admission mark, but will be careful not to choose the same subject examined in different calls. It will select different subjects.
-
Is it possible to increase the NAU with marks from the July PAU exam, having passed the ordinary exam to access the University?
The NAU obtained in June cannot be improved by taking the extraordinary exam in the same year. These marks of the extraordinary phase, if they are better than the marks of the ordinary phase, will only be valid for the following year, but not for the year in which the tests are held.
Preference for allocating university places is given to students who have passed the entrance exam in previous years and who pass the ordinary PAU exam in June, as opposed to those who pass the PAU in the extraordinary exam in July.
-
When will the PAU/EBAU calls for university entrance in the Valencian Community be held in the 24/25 academic year?
The dates of the PAU/EBAU exams for access in the academic year 2024-25 will be 4, 5 and 6 June 2024 for the ordinary call and 2, 3 and 4 July 2024 for the extraordinary call.
-
Where should I go if I want to retake the PAU exams?
It is necessary to go to the centre where you studied Bachillerato. If the centre is in another autonomous community, the registration and enrolment in the PAU must be done from the Students Service of the Universitat de València (av. Blasco Ibáñez, 13. 46010 Valencia).
-
Do the PAU marks expire?
The grades of the compulsory phase do not expire. The grades of the voluntary phase will be valid for two consecutive academic years following the exams. The general core subject of modality and the foreign language examined in the compulsory phase do not expire for the calculation of the NAU, but for the calculation of the NAT they are only valid for the two consecutive academic years following the exams.
-
Once I have taken the PAU exams in the ordinary June call, can I also take the extraordinary exams in July?
Yes, you can repeat the PAU in July, either in its entirety or in any of the two phases (if it is compulsory, it must be the complete phase with the 5 subjects). In any case, it should be taken into account that, in the pre-enrolment process, priority is given to the June call over the July call, so the marks obtained in the July PAU will not be used for access to that year but for the following year.
-
How to print the PAU grades?
The PAU mark sheet can be printed out from https://appweb.edu.gva.es/paseu/login.sec
-
Are there degrees that have specific entrance exams?
Not at the Universitat de València.
-
Can the PAU grades be used to access degrees at universities in other autonomous communities?
Yes. However, it should be borne in mind that weightings, and consequently the admission mark to the degree, may vary according to the university chosen.
In addition, it will be necessary to consult the pre-enrolment dates as they may vary.
-
Is it possible to access directly from an advanced vocational training (CFGS)?
People with an advanced vocational training certificate as a vocational training technician, plastic arts and design technician or advanced sports technician, or equivalent, can apply for direct access to the university with the cumulative average mark (between 5 and 10 points). You must apply for a place through pre-enrolment.
-
How can I increase my entrance mark if I want to access university with a CFGs?
Since the cut-off marks are based on 14 points, it is possible to increase the admission mark by taking the PAU (specific competency test) or the EBAU (university access evaluation) exams during the voluntary phase.
Students in higher level training cycles who enrol in the voluntary phase of the PAU exams can do so in the educational centre where they are currently studying, unless its not a public centre and only offers training cycle studies. In the case that the student has studied vocational training in a non-public centre that does not have second-year baccalaureate studies, enrolment in the voluntary phase of the PAU exam must be processed in the public centre on which the centre where the studies were carried out depends.
-
If I have studied an advanced vocational training, can I access any university degree?
Yes. There is no link between the CFGS studies taken and the branches of knowledge to which the degrees are attached; in other words, you can access any degree regardless of the CFGS taken.
-
Are credits recognised having studied a CFGS?
Credits taken in other official non-university higher education courses within the advanced vocational training, both national and international, may be recognised.
-
How many ECTS credits are recognised if I have studied a CFGS?
At least 30 credits are recognised in the degrees included in the collaboration agreement between the Generalitat and the five Valencian public universities. For other degrees not included in this agreements, credits may also be recognised upon request of the interested party.
