Content of the collection

The map library of the University of Valencia is a specialised library in maps. Its depends organically on the "Joan Reglà" Humanities Library as its coordination or section.

Its collection is made up of all kinds of map material:

Maps and plans

  • Topographic maps: the main Spanish and Valencian official series of all scales.
  • Thematic maps: geological, forestry, land use, crops and exploitation, erosion...
  • Other maps: old maps, nautical charts, tourist maps, cadastral maps, arrangement of urban space...

Atlases: general and specialised, sorted by geographical areas.

Aerial photography: the library has twenty eight flights, all of them of the Valencian territory. The oldest flight is from 1945.

Monographs: the map library has a library with specialised monographs in four areas. 

  • Cartographic technique.
  • History of cartography.
  • Catalogues of library cartographic material and archives of the whole world. 
  • Reference section with encyclopedias and specialised dictionaries.

By geographic area, the collections of the map library are more complete for materials of the Valencian territory and gradually diminish in number for materials of Spain, Europe and the rest of the world.

By thematic area the materials of the map library provide the following knowledge areas: geography, archeology, history, tourism, town and country planning, environmental sciences, language studies, and in the general any science discipline that may have the territory as object of study.
