Within the framework of the European project CitCom.ai, the CitCom.ai-UV research team is collaborating with the Library and Documentation Service (SBD) to develop artificial intelligence-based solutions aimed at addressing real-world challenges.
This collaboration was established to combine the expertise of the ETSE research team in artificial intelligence and data science with the SBD's knowledge and experience in information resource management and support for the university community. Together, both teams are exploring how these fields can contribute to improving university services that already play an important role in the daily activities of researchers.
More specifically, this joint initiative is exploring how these technologies can facilitate access to scientific information and enhance processes related to research dissemination. The objective is to develop tools that address specific needs within the university community and help streamline these processes.
The first use case proposed within this collaboration is the development of a new version of "On publicar", a tool currently available to members of the Universitat de València. The platform integrates information from three major bibliographic indexes: SJR, JCR and Dialnet. It also provides a web interface that allows users to search for and filter journals according to various criteria related to open-access publishing.
Building on this foundation, the CitCom.ai team is working on the next evolution of the platform, preserving and improving its existing search and filtering capabilities while incorporating new features based on artificial intelligence.
One of the main innovations will be the introduction of an intelligent journal recommender capable of suggesting scientific journals based on an article abstract. Researchers will be able to enter the abstract of a manuscript and receive a selection of journals that, according to the available information and the content of the article itself, may be suitable publication venues.
This new functionality will complement traditional filter-based searches with a content-driven approach. As a result, the system will help reduce the time spent identifying potential journals and support researchers in making informed decisions before submitting their manuscripts.
In addition, the tool will place particular emphasis on open-access publishing and repository deposit requirements, providing information about journals that allow open-access publication, offer publication fee discounts, or do not charge article processing fees.
