Yesterday, October 20, at the Escuelas de Artesanos of Valencia, a tribute was held to Maria Moliner, librarian, philologist and lexicographer. Author of the "Diccionario de uso del español”, Maria Moliner was the first woman Director of the Library of the University of Valencia between 1936 and 1937, a woman committed to her work and an exciting life that ended up becoming a benchmark for new generations of women.
The event began at 5:00 p.m. and featured the interventions of the Councilor for Gender Equality and Policies and LGTBi, Lucía Beamud; the Vice-Rector for Equality, Diversity and Sustainability of the University of Valencia, Elena Martínez; the professor of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia, Mercedes Quilis; the president of the Escuela de Artesanos Javier Orozco and Maria Moliner's grandson, Pedro Pitarch. Later, a monolith was discovered in his honor on Gran Vía Marqués del Turia 26.
The tribute was also attended by staff from the libraries of the University of Valencia, among others the SBD director, Victoria García Esteve, and the "Maria Moliner" Education Library Director, Silvia Giner. There was also María José Martínez Alcalde, professor of Spanish Philology at the University of Valencia, who together with Mercedes Quilis were the promoters of the tribute, and Maria Moliner's biographer, Inmaculada de la Fuente, author of "El exilio interior", available at our libraries.
