Synopsis
The introduction and the impact of the French Age of Enlightenment during the called Spanish Illustration, has been object of many studies. From the classic works by Sarrailh, Herr, Defourneaux, and Domergue, to the most recent works of two of the biggest masters, François Lopez and Antonio Mestre, the French Enlightenment continues being the topic of many debates, analysis and reflections. However, there are still many aspects to clarify, one of them having to do with the final reach of ideas of the called philosophes in our country. Was there Enlightenment in Spain or was it more like reformism? Did the French intellectual ideas actually influence Spain in the 18th century or was it all a farce? Last research done in the History of the book field, and the study of the picture of Spain in France in the 18th century, will let us get a bit closer to answering these questions.
