The Library has means of reproduction to provide users with copies in the best possible conditions from the historical collection from which they are being requested and, at the same time, to guarantee their preservation, avoiding excessive manipulation of the document or unnecessary exposure to intense light or heat.
The reproductions will reflect the characteristics and the conservation status of the originals and problems such as acidity, lost inks, printing or loss of information due to the binding.
Direct copies are prohibited in the case of manuscripts, incunabula and prints from the 16th to the 19th centuries, in works published in the early years of the 20th century and in those cases where it is not recommended due to conservation reasons.
Qualified staff will be in charge of making the copies.
Obtaining reproductions of bibliographic material does not imply permission for publication, which must be requested to the Library following the established procedure below.
Restrictions and limitations that apply to the reproduction of certain documents from the collection of the Historical Library comply with the current legislation and with the measures adopted for its preservation and conservation.
The University of Valencia allows users to view, print, copy or download digitised works intended for personal and private use, not for comercial purposes, for their distribution or dissemination without modifying or altering the content. Any other use requires express authorisation by the Library Management.
The usage of the images provided by the Library can be the following:
Personal Use.
- Public domain works.
- Copyrighted works: when they are for private use and exclusively for research purposes, according with the principles laid down in existing legislation (Restated text of the Intellectual Property Law, approved by Royal Decree 1/1996, 12 April, amended by Law 23/2006 7 July).
Public use (authorisation is needed).
- Public domain works: its public use (publishing use, public communication, advertising use, website, etc:) requires previous authorisation by the the Director of the Library and, if necessary the payment of a fee.
