The document Standardization of the scientific signature of the authors of the Universitat de València, prepared by the Libraries and Documentation Service and approved by the Governing Council on March 7, 2023, is now available.

Institutional affiliation

Authors of the UV must always include the Universitat de València when entering their affiliation data in all their scientific production (research articles, books, papers and other publications).

In accordance with Article 1 of the University Statutes and Article 7.1 of the University of Valencia Language Usage Regulations, “the name of the Universitat de València must be in Valencian only”. Furthermore, it must be taken into account that the official names of the departments, centers and services of the Universitat de València must be written in its own language.

Although different structural levels are used, in no case may the mention in Universitat de València be omitted, and the following order must be respected:

  1. Research Group
  2. Departament
  3. Center or Institute
  4. Universitat de València

Likewise, the postal address, city and corresponding country must be added, the latter in its English form.

Standardize the signature

It is advisable to standardize the signature at the beginning of the research career. That is, always use the same form of the name to identify the author as clearly and univocally as possible.

As a general rule:

Name:

  • Always developed and avoid initials
  • Compound names are joined with hyphen: María-José
  • Abbreviations such as Vte, Mª, etc. are not used.

Surnames:

  • Use a single surname if it is quite recognizable and does not lead to misunderstandings: Moracho, Antonio, although the 2 surnames joined by a hyphen is the most unambiguous.
  • In more common surnames, it is preferable to use the 2 surnames joined with a hyphen: Caballero-Plasencia, Antonio
  • If the surname contains particles, they are also joined with hyphens: García-de-la-Torre, Carlos
  • Do not use abbreviations such as Mz., Rguez., etc.

Database correction

It is advisable to correct possible errors (duplications, missing information...) of the author's identity in databases.

To correct your data in:

  • DIALNET: write to revistas@uv.es or to those responsible for your library with the problems you have found. From the corresponding library we will contact the DIALNET managers and we will try to solve it as soon as possible.
  • SCOPUS: if your entry in this database is duplicated, does not appear by the chosen signature or you are missing an article or have one assigned that is not yours, you can correct it yourself using this guide. If you are unable to fix it, please contact  La Biblioteca Respón.
  • Portal de Producció Cientìfica: Consult the guide.
