The policies of affective-sexual, family, gender, ethnocultural and religious diversity are promoted by diversities, an initiative integrated within the Universitat de València Unit of equality and Diversity since September 2022.

This is the structure of different work areas:

  • Awareness and education.
  • Mentoring and diversity attention.
  • Lecturing and research.
  • Network work.
  • Institutional policies.

 

Inclusive university, inclusive campuses

During the academic year, we celebrate some of the most important dates for diversity, like the Day of Gypsy People, the Pride Month or Trans October. Conferences, conversations, performances and campaigns are programmed and organised. The 'La UV, la teua' Campaign is an initiative of the Student Initiative Assistant Council on LGBTIQ+ matters of UV to showcase the university as a safe, equal and inclusive space along with all the resourced available. We also provide yearly grants and support to fund social-cultural activities of equality. We organise courses and educational workshops for the entire university community as well. For the PDI and PTGAS, we also offer an introduction course on diversity to include these matters on the contents of the different programmes by SEDI.

Anti-discrimination policies

There is also the mentoring and assistance to students, professors and personnel of all centres and services for processes like name change for trans people or action against lgbtiphobic or racist comments. There are two currently active protocols:

  • Universitat de València Protocol for Identity and Gender Expression Assistance, approved in June 2019. More information here.
  • Universitat de València Protocol against Gender-Based Sexual Harrasment and Other Discrimnatory Harrasment, approved in July 2021. More information here.

Education and research

To promote education and research regarding equality and diversity, we present a series of awards and support programmes the Unit manages and celebrates regularly:

  • Best TFG, TFM and Doctoral Theses Award: An award for the best Degree final Projects, Master's Degree Final Projects and Doctoral Theses regarding ethnocultural, religious, sexual, gender, family and LGBTIQ+ diversity, equal treatment, anti-discrimination, and prevention against hate crimes.
  • Fora de Classe:grants for social-cultural projects: SEDI offers grants, financial and assistance support aids to for social-cultural proposals brought by UV students. The Unit of Equality and Diversity offers a specific assistance service for those who want to integrate gender perspective and diversity in their projects from the grant application to budget making, design and realization.

Participation, network work and society

We diversitats wish to stablish contact, strengthen the network with other institutions and public universities as well as university collectives and third sector entities working in diversities. To that end, we organise work groups and conferences and sign collaboration agreements. We are part of the FORTHEM Diversity and Inclusion Unit, the Universities Network for Diversity (RUD), and the Valencian Public Universities Network for Equality and Diversity (XUPVID). We also signed collaboration agreements with Lambda, Samarucs, Romi and ODA.

Institutional policies

After a study-diagnosis of the situation. the Universitat de València 1st Plan of Diversities comrpising 43 actions within 5 lines of work to develop in 4 years (2024-2027), it has become an essential goal to guarantee equality of treatment and opportunity of people within the university community.
