Juan Antonio Gisbert Calabuig (Valencia, 14/06/1922 - Valencia, 30/05/2000)
A native of Valencia, where he was born in 1922, he studied in that city for his Baccalaureate and Bachelor of Medicine, which he completed in 1947, with an average grade of Excellent.
He completed his doctorate studies at the Universidad Central (Madrid), where he read and defended his doctoral thesis in 1949.
From the beginning of his professional practice he opted for the speciality of Forensic Medicine, joining the National Corps of Forensic Doctors by competitive examination in 1950, serving in various courts of first instance and instruction in the provinces of Castellón, Granada and Valencia. He was the first director of the Forensic Anatomical Institute of the Territorial Court of Granada.
He combined his forensic medical activity with his university career, obtaining by competitive examination the posts of Internal Student, Practical Class Assistant and Assistant Professor of Legal Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia.
He furthered his studies in Naples and Paris and, finally, in 1959 he obtained the Chair of Legal Medicine and Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine in Granada, which he held for fourteen years, until 1973, when he was transferred to the same Chair at the Faculty of Medicine in Valencia.
During his posting in Granada he was Director of the University College "Isabel la Católica", Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Professional School of "Medicina del Trabajo", which he himself had founded.
Once in Valencia, he was Vice-Rector of the University for three years.
Once he retired, he continued his professional activity. On the day of his death, he wrote his last expert report in one of the Valencia courts.
Among his many works, it is worth mentioning his splendid Tratado de Medicina Legal (Treatise on Legal Medicine), which became a compulsory textbook for many generations of medical students.

Donation
The donation consists of 434 volumes of works on legal subjects, a subject that fits in perfectly with other collections conserved in this library, such as the Peset collection and the Lecha-Marzo collection, which includes monographs on this discipline that chronologically precede those contributed by Dr. Gisbert's donation.
The donation has an important section of works on psychiatry and also on the question of medical responsibility.
