Collections from the 16th, 18th and 20th centuries

In 1906, the heirs of José Pizcueta bequeathed the Botanical Garden their private library, which consisted of general botanic books and floras from the 18th and 19th centuries. This legacy constitutes the basis of the Old Collection. Some of these works are illustrated with magnificent and chalcographic engravings and coloured illustrations of an exceptional quality that photographic technique couldn’t surpass. These collected works were augmented with the purchase and donation of facsimiles of works that would be otherwise difficult to obtain.

Monographs and other publications on botany

The library also has a significant collection of books, specialised journals and popular science magazines, special materials and offprints or extracts from monographs. These materials were chiefly donated by Manuel Costa Talens, Gonzalo Mateo and Vernon H. Heywood.

The library collections are part of the general catalogue of the University (link to catàleg Trobes).

The library also has doctoral theses, dissertations and final projects, most of them unpublished, and various teaching projects archived, most of them donated by D. Manuel Costa (both types of documents are excluded from loan and reproduction without the written consent of the authors).

Facsímiles

The small collection of facsimiles is also worthy of mention (searchable from the general catalogue through the reference code JB FACS). These are successively adding up to the old collection.
