The Subscribe to Open (S2O) model is an innovative way to publish scientific content in open access without additional costs for authors or changes to library subscription processes.

This model is based on a collaborative principle: if the institutions that traditionally subscribe to a journal maintain their subscriptions, the publisher opens up the content of that journal to free and open access for the entire community. This ensures the financial sustainability of the publishing process while promoting universal access to knowledge.

The SBD supports and promotes initiatives that help to achieve the highest level of access by subscribing to some of the publishers that offer this model in some of their titles: Annual Reviews, De Gruyter, Brepols, CAIRN, Edinburgh University Press, Liverpool University, Microbiology Society, Mohr Siebeck, Project Muse, SAGE, Taylor & Francis, among others.

Before publishing, you should contact the publisher to ensure the continuity of the model, as publishers check the sustainability of their open access project every year.
