On Wednesday, the 10th of April, the University Extension Service, which manages the programme of the Universitat de València ‘La Nau Gran’ (for people over 55 years), promotes a meeting with entities that also educate older people in our social context. It will be at 10:30p.m. in the historical building of ‘La Nau’, under the title ‘Escuchamos nuestro entorno. Formación activa, mutua y crítica’.

‘We do education ‘for’ and ‘with’ people, for that reason, we have to check if a project from the 20th century still fulfils the aim of contributing to our society and to the spaces of critic and intergenerational dialogue, which are used for the creation of knowledge and for the distribution of culture and of the science that we generate.

The activity will consist on the sharing of experiences, with the aim to know us better and sew complicities in favour of the education along the entire lifetime.

The councillor of older people of Valencia, Sandra Gómez; the Vice-principal from the UPV Rosa Puchades; the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sports from the Universitat de València, Antonio Ariño will attend the inaugural act. The opening speech will be given by the director of the University Extension Service, Amparo Pérez.

‘Education is a recognised right for everyone; it is on us to turn this right into the force for change to achieve a better quality life for everyone.  Formation for older people is one of the more educationally democratic socio-pedagogical projects that we have. We want to dialogue, with students as protagonists, about what we are doing, how and what impact has in the quality life of people’ explain Pérez.

Along the seminar, there will be talks, debates, work groups and dynamics, to which representatives of the General Direction of Educational Politics have confirmed their attendance, along with the ‘Aulas de la Tercera Edad’ of the ‘Conselleria’, the Popular University of Valencia, the association of retired professors of the UV, members of the Municipal Centres of Activities for elderly people, the Forum ‘Ciudadano Sénior’, the ‘Amics de La Nau Gran’ association, the ‘Iaioflautas’, representatives of the students of ‘La Nau Gran’ and the representatives of university programmes for older people of the Valencian public network.

Wednesday afternoon, will also be celebrated the meeting about the university Valencian network programmes for older people (XPUMCV), which coordinates the programmes of education in the five Valencian public universities for people over 55 years old. This network was created the 22nd of February of 2017, even though some contacts and collaborations already existed.
