The Universitat de València celebrates on Monday, 16 May, 700 years from the death of the writer Ramon Llull with an event about his work and the inauguration of an exhibition about his figure. From 9 hours there will be giving four lectures at the Assembly Hall Enric Valor of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication. The sessions will restart in the afternoon (16:15 hours) at the Aula Magna of the Universitat de València, at the Cultural Centre of La Nau.

Ramon Llull (1232-1316) is the most international author of the Catalan culture. This year it is celebrated the 700 anniversary from his death and the organisers wanted to join the commemoration with this journey, in which some of the best specialists will talk about three dimensions of his work: his use of a certain literary expression, the missionary and interdenominational dialog strategies; and, the most remarkable, visual and iconic aspect of his famous work ‘Ars’.

‘The three aspects are closely related between them -a the organisers explain- because even though the “Ars” was conceived for missions, the almost mechanic character of the figures resulted in an interpretation of this method in a purely logic and mathematic key. Llull, anyway, wanted to divulge and make his “Ars” understandable at every level, and, therefore, the use of a literary form.

The round tables’ aim is also to update about the events in the Llull Year and about the last progresses in the bibliographic and research area around the author and his work.
