The UV wishes 39 women and 38 men every success in their participation in the name of our academic institution in the university championships that will take place in July in Montenegro, Hungary, Albania, Croatia and Portugal.

Last Monday 12 June, the University of Valencia received the call sheet containing the names of the athletes that will compete this summer on the European level in 10 different sporting events, as well as the coaches of the UV national teams.

Presiding over the reception was the President of the University of Valencia, Mª Vicenta Mestre, manager of the UV, Juan Vicente Climent, the director of the Sports Service of the University of Valencia, Ana Mª Gómez and the head of the Sports Service, Fernando Sánchez.

The president of the UV emphasized the extraordinary merit of combining excellence in sport with academic performance: “When the rest of your classmates have finished their coursework, for you the most important competition of the year begins. The effort and ability you all demonstrate is of great value.”

“You are a source of pride for the University of Valencia and for the university community as a whole,” added the Ana Mª Gómez, director of UVesports. “You have shown that sport is an essential part in integral human development, and that it fosters values like effort, discipline, respect and solidarity.”

During the reception, the UV athletes were thanked for their dedication, commitment and passion for sport and congratulated for their success in the Spanish University Championships (CEU) which ended at the beginning of June, in which the UV won a total of 55 medals: 15 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze.

“Thanks to your hard work, the UV is the first public Spanish university to compete university sports competitions,” affirmed Mª Vicenta Mestre. “The work is done, and from here it is simply a matter of doing your best, competing in a way that leaves you satisfied with your performance and, above all, enjoying the moment that you all worked so hard to reach and the privilege that you have earned of participating in these championships, of experiencing an event that many of us would have loved to experience ourselves,” she advised.

“The University of Valencia wishes the best of luck to the 77 athletes competing in the European University Championships.”
