On April 17, a new exhibition that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the foundation of Comisiones Obreras del País Valenciano was inaugurated. Mavi Mestre, the Principal of the Universitat de València, is expected to be present at the event. Other people that are expected to be in the inauguration are the General Secretary of CCOO, Unai Sordo; the General Secretary of CCOO-PV, Arturo León; the Vice-president of the Valencian Government, Mónica Oltra; the President of the Valencian Courts, Enric Morera; the President of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Jorge Rodríguez; and the Mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó.

The inauguration of the exhibition takes place during the 50th anniversary of the public presentation of CCOO-PV in a context of clandestinely and repression. The sample exhibits objects, documents, photographies and audio-visual recordings “To remember the past as it was or as we thought it was, and to learn what we must do or avoid today. Ultimately, contributing to recover an active memory that is not pleased with the past nor the present” the organizers state.

They aim to analyse, reflect and raise in value the contribution of CCOO-PV in the Valencian Community and the social changes that have happened in this period. They use documents in different formats and languages.  The main objective is that people know the fight of hundreds committed with political and social action.

The exhibition is organised by Mila Belinchón, Luis García Trapiello, Alberto Gómez and Tatiana Sapena. It aims to be a remembrance work towards unionism and its reflection in current days. This means explaining people the past, so that they can face future challenges. Globalization and new technologies deregulate the markets, which has severe consequences in labour and trade unions.

The exhibition deals with five different themes: the birth of CCOO under the dictatorship, the transformation of the union movement, the regional action of the union, the union in the Valencian Country and the Union nowadays.

The sample is completed thanks to the recognition of the cultural commitment with the labour movement. It has been materialised in a caring manner in the works of artists and intellectuals. Many artist of the plastic creativity world attended to show their support and solidarity to CCOO. A large selection of artistic pieces is part of the commemorative exhibition, too.

The exhibition has been organized by Comisiones Obreras del País Valenciano and the Office of the Vice-principal for Culture of the Universitat de València. Fundación de Estudios e Iniciativas Sociolaborales, FEIS Archivo Histórico José Luis Borbolla Cátedra Interuniversitaria de Memoria Democrática de la Comunidad Valenciana and the Aula de Historia y Memoria Democrática de la Universitat de València.

The Valencian Courts and the Valencian Government have financed the exhibition. The city councils of Alzira, Sagunto, Valencia, La Vall d’Uixó have collaborated. Caixa Ontinyent has participated, too.
