‘Los gitanos en España y más allá. La gitaneidad en un mundo globalizado’ (Romani people in Spain and beyond. The Romani-ness in a globalized world) is the title of a seminar that will be held on the 30th and 31st of May at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Universitat de València. The sessions will be given by David Lagunas, professor of the University of Seville and a benchmark in research about Romani people.

In the first session, the conditions of Romani people in Spain will be analysed: their identity, social position and evolution. The second one will have two parts. On the one hand, Romani people in America (Mexico and Argentina) will be addressed. On the other hand, the case of Romani people from Romania in Spain will be studied, and the book ‘Gitanos rumanos en España: trayectorias de vida, estrategias y políticas públicas’ (Romani people from Romania in Spain: life courses, strategies and public policies) edited by Tirant lo Blanch in 2021 and coordinated by C. Bergeon, David Lagunas, and Francisco Torres, will be presented.

The seminar will be five hours long, divided into two two-and-a-half sessions. It will take place in the 2A2 room of the Faculty of Social Sciences, from 5:30 PM until 8 PM.

David Lagunas is an Anthropology professor at the University of Seville and has taught at various Mexican universities over more than a decade. His research field is focused on Romani people on both sides of the Atlantic. His researcher profile can be found at https://bibliometria.us.es/prisma/investigador/2125#
