In the course of a meeting held by videoconference between the Regional Minister for Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society and the Principals of the Valencian public universities, it was agreed that the 2020-21 academic year would begin in the Valencian Community in a semi-attendance mode. The course will start on 14 September, except for first-year students, who will start on 25 September.

Within the framework of the Transition Plan towards a New Normality approved by the Spanish Government, the public universities of the Valencian Community met on the afternoon of June 2 with the Valencian Government to transfer to our territorial reality the indications of the Ministry of Universities regarding the hybrid teaching modality for the next academic year, in order to start the course safely, in an environment characterized by the uncertainty of the epidemiological evolution of the COVID-19.

The meeting between the Regional Minister and the Vice-Principals ended with an agreement for the whole system, and was followed by a technical meeting of Vice-Principals and the Regional Ministry's team.

In this sense, the maximum objective has been to guarantee the safety of the Valencian university community at the beginning of the 2020-21 academic year, which will also be marked by the delay in the EBAU tests.

For this reason, the next academic year will begin, for first-year students, on September 25, while the rest of the courses will begin on September 14, as planned by the Universitat de València.

In any case, this modification of the calendar for new students will not affect the end date of the course, which will remain as planned.

These are the main agreements reached:

  • Semi-presence development of the first quarter of 2020-2021. The objective is to recover the normal presence of the teaching modality of the university degrees that are taught in the Valencian Community.
  • Implantation of a hybrid teaching model, to achieve this semi-attendance. Thus, broadly speaking, most of the theory classes will be taught in a non-attendance mode, while the practices will try to achieve the maximum possible attendance, in safe conditions.
  • Prioritize the continuous assessment  system
  • Application of a specific Public Health protocol that regulates attendance. This commitment has been achieved by the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, which will request the Regional Ministry of Universal Health and Public Health to develop it.
