The first day will be dedicated to climate change and will be inaugurated by the Dean of the Faculty, Francisco Javier Palao, together with Carmen Lloret-Catalá, Director of the UNESCO Chair in Development Studies; Ignacio de Julián, Deputy Director for Institutional Relations at Casa Mediterráneo; Aurora Pedro, secretary of the Congress, and Rubén Martínez Dalmau, director. In the inaugural conference, Jorge Olcina, from the University of Alicante, will talk about ‘Climate change on the Spanish Mediterranean coast: the urgent need for adaptation’.

In turn, Professor Pedro will speak with the paper 'The Mediterranean as a setting for new instruments of action in the process of green transition', and then Marco Aparicio, from the University of Girona, will develop an intervention entitled 'Energy transition and climate (in)justice. Critical analysis of the model for the implementation of renewables in the Mediterranean context’. In the afternoon, Margarita Miñarro, from the Universitat Jaume I, will talk about ‘Obstacles and drivers of green occupation in the Mediterranean arc’, with special reference to Spain. Next, Adoración Guamán, of the UV, will deliver a paper on 'The fight against climate change and the environment in the rules of due diligence in human rights'. The day will end with a paper by Karla Georgina Martínez, from the Università degli studi di Brescia, on ‘Analysis of climate change as a cause of migration’.

The rights of nature in the Mediterranean will be the focus of the second and final day of the congress. Silvia Bagni, from the University of Bologna, will open the day with the presentation ‘The contributions of nature’s rights in the construction of a relational paradigm of rights’. José Chofre, from the University of Alicante, will then talk about ‘Climate change and nature rights: a perspective from the Mediterranean’. Next, Ainhoa ​​Lasa, of the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU) will develop a paper on 'The Mediterranean Sea as a subject of rights: the constitutional legal fit in the proposal of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of Nature in the EU' . The next speech will correspond to José Ángel Camisón, from the University of Alicante, who will refer to ‘The Union for the Mediterranean: a way to achieve the recognition of the Mare Nostrum as a subject of rights?’. Rubén Martínez Dalmau, UV professor and director of the congress, will then talk about ‘The ecocentric turn in the United Nations and the European Union: the 2030 Agenda and the European Green Pact’. Finally, Teresa Vicente, from the University of Murcia, will give the closing lecture on ‘The rights of nature and the Popular Legislative Initiative to recognize legal personality in the Mar Menor Lagoon and its Basin’.
