The Mallorcan philologist Joan Miralles will give a lecture on Tuesday, March 28 at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia. He will also present his book 'Macs, pols and bells. Memories of a generation'. Miralles is considered the leading figure in Mallorcan philology.

At 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, in classroom S02 (basement of the faculty), Joan Miralles will give a lecture entitled 'The linguistic interest of court books of criminal cases: Colloquial Catalan in the Middle Ages'. Later, at 12:30 p.m., in the boardroom on the second floor, he will talk about his book 'Macs, pols and bells. Memories of a generation'. In addition to the author, professors Antoni Ferrando and Emili Casanova will participate.

Joan Miralles is a retired professor of Catalan Philology at the University of the Balearic Islands and a former member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC), where he has always represented the Balearic Islands. A leading figure in Mallorcan philology, he has devoted himself especially to the history of the language, onomastics (PATROM and Nomenclator of toponymy of the Balearic Islands), text editing, popular culture and oral history, and in all fields he has opened new paths such as the study of colloquial Catalan through books of crime, or the anthology of texts of the Balearic Islands, with nine volumes.
