The Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication held yesterday Saturday the traditional academic and cultural competition 'Chinese Bridge' in its 22nd edition at university level and 16th for secondary school students. The event, organised by the Confucious Institute of the University of Valencia (ICUV), brings together a large number of children and young people. The event was attended by more than a hundred people interested in Chinese culture and language, as well as family members of those who participate in this annual competition that values students' skills and abilities about China and its civilisation.

This year's winners were Diego López Cuevas in the secondary education category and Sarah Rey Sancho in the university category. Both competitors will go to León next Saturday 3 June to participate in the combined phase, in which the winners of the rest Confucious Institutes of Spain will compete.  The aim of this event, whose central theme this year is 'Learning Chinese, creating a brighter future', is to increase the dissemination of the Chinese language, its learning among young people and to consolidate the knowledge of this culture.

According to the ICUV director, Vicente Andreu, “this competition reveals the great acceptance that the Chinese language and culture has among the Valencian society, both in terms of the high level of the performances we have seen, as well as the number of students enrolled each year in our Confucius Institute. In this edition, we have also achieved a great participation in the exhibition part, with more than thirty participants; and also a great quality in all the artistic performances". The ICUV's teaching staff, mostly composed of native Chinese teachers, make up the 'Chinese Bridge' committee.

Since 2007, the year of its foundation in Valencia, the ICUV is the only official centre of Chinese language and culture in the Valencian Community and also the only one qualified to hold the official HSK exams for adults and YCT for children and teenagers. It is considered by the Chinese headquarters as a 'Model Confucius Institute' since 2015 and has various awards and mentions, including being one of the 20 best in the world (there are currently 525) and the Distinction for Cultural Merit 9 d'Octubre of the Generalitat. It is also editor since its first issue in July 2010 of the bimonthly bilingual magazine Confucious Institute, which is published in Spanish and Chinese and distributed in Ibero-America.
