The Confucius Institute of the Universitat de València (ICUV) has organised the opening ceremony of the academic course 2018-2019. The event took place at the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication and gathered a large group of primary and secondary school students, their families and the academic managers of ICUV.

The director, Vicente Andreu, was satisfied and stated, “We can see once again how students are interested in the Chinese language, no matter the academic level of the language. Additionally, adults want to start studying it in order to have better job opportunities.” Diplomas that prove the levels of Chinese language for infant and young learners have been given in the event.

ICUV is the only official centre of Chinese language and culture in the Valencian Community. The registration period takes place during the month of September. Until now, the number of students that have decided to start a course is proportionally higher than the previous year. This indicates how the Chinese language is highly accepted among Valencian students. The courses that are offered for university students are equivalent to open credits in any grade, depending on the level and the number of teaching hours, up to 3 yearly credits if the itinerary is completed and the academic objectives are achieved.

There is a wide variety of courses whose registration is open (50 courses). They are divided in different levels and schedules. They vary from basic courses to the ones that prepare students for the official exams HSK-YCT that the ICUV itself assesses in May, or those that allow them to go on a summer camp in China.  There are also courses to develop the linguistic skills for a business environment for professionals. The importance of the registration of infant students must be highlighted.  This was a pioneer initiative of ICUV a decade ago as it was the first centre in Spain devoted to the promotion of the Chinese language, culture and society by offering courses to minor students within the university.

The ICUV of the Universitat de València is the Confucius Institute Model assigned by the Head office in Hanban. It has been running for more than a decade.  5,000 students have already studied in the centre. The teaching body in charge of the courses is formed by native-speakers coming from the Northeast Normal University (NENU) who have the highest academic standards and professional competencies. ICUV’s rooms are equipped with the latest technologies for language training in both centres.  They are located at the Faculty of Philology, Communication and Translation (Blasco Ibañez Campus) and the building Beatriu Civera (Serpis Street). You can obtain more information of the courses, some of which starting on 18th September, in the webpage of ICUVwww.uv.es/confucio
