The Debate Forum Dedicates a Season to the 80th Anniversary of the End of the Spanish Civil War

This year is the 80th anniversary of the end of the Spanish Civil War. After the victory of the Francoist army in 1939, came a dictatorship that would last for almost forty years. The Debate Forum de la Universitat de València dedicates a series of debates on this subject between March and June at the Cultural Centre La Nau.

The first activity of the '80th Birthday of the Spanish Civil War Cycle' will take place today, 26th March, at 7.30 p.m.: a lecture by Javier Navarro, professor at the Universitat de València, entitled Long Shadows. Public memory of the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939'. On the 3rd of April, the second lecture entitled 'Republic, republicanism and republicans' will be given by Ricard Camil Torres, also a professor at the Universitat de València. On the 10th, Marc Baldó, professor at the Universitat, will give the lecture 'Spanish Republicans to the Nazi Camps: Victims and Victimizers'. The season will continue throughout the months of May and June. All the conferences will be held at 7 p.m.

Among other topics, this series of debates will deal with issues such as repression in the different stages of Franco's regime, the role of women in the Republic and the dictatorship, the films illustrating that time or the war in València and the Valencian Community.
