The Laboratory of Experimental and Behavioural Economics of the Universitat de València (LINEEX), holds next Friday 25 May the conference “Nudging, public policies and fight against corruption” that will take place at the seminar room B3 of the Building Institutes of Tarongers Campus.

The conference begins with a clear question: Is it possible to change unwanted behaviour of citizens and authorities? For the professor Penélope Hernández, director of LINEEX and member of the research team UMICCS, the answer is evident: “Yes, but we should identify how and why people act in a certain way, and what motivate us to act in a different way. Understanding the real behaviour of humans and their decision mechanism, is the first step to implement successfully a new public strategy, organisational or commercial”.

In the conference will be discussed how behavioural economics use certain mechanisms, called “nudges”, to promote certain types of behaviour in people. It will be explain how the progress in the implementation of behaviour sciences allows, through experimentation and algorithm, to create predictive tools of human behaviour in situation and context of decision-making potentially undesired or illegal. Behavioural economics, explains professor Hernández, “acts on certain cognitive biases that determinate the fast decisions token by people, automatics and intuitive, unconsciously”. Progress in the implementation of behavioural sciences allows, through experimentation, to create predictive tools of human behaviour, that is the main objective of laboratory that runs. Furthermore, adds the director of LINEEX, “the use of Big Data and the algorithm allows to detect behaviour patterns rapidly and consistently. Early detection of these behaviours is the key to prevent undesired or illegal behaviours and the behavioural economics is the tool to modify them”.

About LINEEX

LINEEZ is the laboratory of the ERICES (Estructura de Recerca Interdisciplinar en Coportament Econòmic i Social of the Universitat de València) and an international benchmark to study, understand, forecast and quantify people’s behaviour when interacting in economic and social contexts. For that, they design controlled situations (experiments) in which participants are invited to make decisions individuals or collectives that incentive economically to get the linking of the actions with a tangible result. In addition to its work purely investigating, LINEEX develops research projects of more than two hundred researchers of 20 countries and it is an example of transfer of research knowledge to public institutions and private companies.
