Elena Mut, first woman to take office as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences

On Friday, 1 March, Elena Mut Moltalvá became the first woman to take office as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Universitat de València. She replaces professor Albert Moncusí, who had been in office for the last two terms. Mut was the only candidate and has obtained 28 votes in favour, 4 blank and 3 invalid.

She is accompanied on the management team by Mireia Llobera (secretary of the faculty and president of the Quality Committee of the Centre), Francisco Ródenas (Vice-Dean of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies and president of the Committee of the Degree), Anna Giulia Ingellis (International Relations and Mobility and president of the Committee of the Degree in Sociology and the Double Degree in Sociology and Political Sciences), Jordi Giner (Academic Organisation) and Josep Vicent Pitxer (Participation, Culture and Sustainability, and president of the Committee of the Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources).

With a degree in Sociology and a diploma in Social Work, Elena Mut is a doctor in ‘Gender, Subjectivity, Knowledge and Culture’ from the Universitat de València. In addition, she also studied the Master's Degree in Immigration from the Comillas Pontifical University, in Madrid.

Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Services of the Universitat de València since 2002, she has taught on the Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, Sociology, the Double Degree in Sociology and Political Sciences, the Master’s Degree in Gender and Equality Policies, the Master’s Degree in Development Aid, and on the Master’s Degree in Personal and Community Nutrition, as well as on a variety of postgraduate education courses in international cooperation and migrations to other universities (Autonomous University of Madrid, University of Alacant and Universitat Jaume I).

She has been secretary of the department, coordinator of mobility and member of the Degree Academic Committee for the Degree in Social Work, member of the Academic Coordinating Committee for the Master’s Degree in Gender and Equality Policies and the Master's Degree in Development Aid, and member of the Doctoral Studies Committee in Social Sciences.

As a researcher, Elena Mut is a member of the team of the Chair for Feminist Economics and the Mixed Committee of the New Green Transition Chair (Tourism), both from the Universitat de València. She is a researcher at the University Institute of Women Studies (IUED) and is part of the Socioeconomic Inequalities and Public Policies With a Gender Perspective (GENDESPOL) research group. Likewise, she collaborates with the Migration, Diversity and Social Cohesion (MIDICO) group.

Member of the Spanish Network of Development Studies (REEDES) and of the Research and Transfer Committee of the Spanish University Association for Social Work (AUETS), she has extensive professional experience with almost 20 years working on the fields of immigration and international cooperation for development from a feminist perspective, residing for eight of them in Latin America. Throughout her professional trajectory, she has combined academic life with social commitment, participating in a variety of social organisations.
