On Thursday, 14 March, Enric Valor i Micó has become the new dean of the Faculty of Physics of the Universitat de València. Valor was the only candidate and has obtained 37 votes in favour, with one left blank. He replaces Jordi Vidal, whose two mandates have already expired.

The new team is formed by María Jesús Hernández, professor of the Department of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics (vice‑dean for Studies in physics and innovation); María Amparo Díez, from the Department of Optics and Optometry and Vision Sciences (vice‑dean for Studies in optics, optometry and infrastructures); José María Martí, from the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (Internationalisation and Quality); and Domingo Martínez, from the Department of Applied Physics and Electromagnetism (secretary).

Enric Valor graduated in Physics in 1992, being awarded with the “Premio Extraordinario” and the “Premio Nacional de Estudios Universitarios” honours. He completed his PhD in Physics in 1997, with a thesis in which he developed a method for estimating emissivity. The method is currently used in different satellite products that measure the temperature of Earth’s surface. In 2005, he became a professor of the Department of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics, being currently a Full Professor of Earth Physics.

In research, he works in the thermal remote sensing field, considering both methodology and application in the study of physical phenomena that occur in the surface–atmosphere interface, with special emphasis on the analysis of climate change. He has published more than 60 international scientific articles in SCI journals. He has also participated in 35 research projects (in 7 of them, as the main researcher), funded by both national and international organisations, and in 15 research agreements with enterprises. Additionally, he has supervised 5 doctoral theses. In 2010, he received the Norbert Gerbier‑MUMM award, granted by the World Meteorological Organization.

Regarding his teaching activity, he has taught courses in the faculties of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (at undergraduate, graduate and doctorate levels), has participated in multiple teaching innovation projects and has supervised several Undergraduate Degree (TFG) and Master’s Degree (TFM) final projects.

He has been the secretary (2006–2012) and the vice-dean (2018–currently) of the Faculty of Physics. Moreover, he has been a member of different commissions and work groups of the UV, as well as a member of the Faculty’s Board (since 2004), of the Teaching Staff Board (since 2009) and of the Governing Council (between 2014–2016 and 2022–2024).
