Experts analyse how school hours affect students’ health and learning

Experts from different countries will meet at the Universitat de València on 11 and 12 June to analyse the organisation of school schedules and the effects on health, learning, time use and satisfaction. The initiative is promoted by the Research Group on School Health and Well-being (GISBE). The lectures will be both on-site and online.

This is an activity of the project ‘Student chronotype (mis)match with school time organisation: its effects on health, learning, time use and satisfaction’ (Kairos) (PID2021-126846NA-I00/ AEI / 10.13039/501100011033)’.

The lectures will take place at 10:00am at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Universitat de València, with interventions from Dean of the centre Elena Mut, and researcher from the Kairos project Daniel Gabaldón-Estevan.

Some of the topics to be discussed are: school schedules and social jetlag, the effects on learning, sleeping well and physical activity to fight obesity, among others.

International experts from fields related to different time dimensions in the lives of young children, such as health, education or well-being will participate, including Ana Adán (UB), Cátia Reyes (Lisboa), Vanessa Vidal (Buenos Aires) and Ana Allen (Coimbra).

The meeting is funded by the Ministry of Science / State Research Agency (MICIN/AEI) and supported by the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, as well as the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences of the Faculty of Social Sciences, all from the Universitat de València.
