Francisco Muñoz Murgui has been re-elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Universitat de València. He is a Professor in the Department of Financial and Actuarial Economics. The Faculty Board held the election on Tuesday 26 March, with 49 votes in favour and one blank.

The team led by the Dean includes Pedro Canales (Quality, Accreditations and Planning), Salvador Castro (Academic Regulations), Elvira Cerver (Employability and External Internships), Pedro Cillero (Economics and Infrastructures), Cristina Crespo (Participation, Volunteering and Equality), Dolores Forés (Undergraduate Studies), José Ramón García (Secretary), Asunción Hernández (International Relations), Antonio Marín (Communication and Institutional Relations), Dolores Montagud (Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation) and student Santiago Ausina (Students).

One of the main challenges of the upcoming mandate is to enhance the visibility and presence of the Faculty in Valencian Society. This can be achieved by collaborating more closely with companies and institutions to promote employability and entrepreneurship, while also recognising graduates as excellent professionals with strong technical skills and ethical values.

Francisco Muñoz Murgui is a Doctor in Economics and Business Administration from the Universitat de València and an Insurance Actuary from the Complutense University of Madrid.

He is also an Associate Professor in the Area of Financial Economics and Accounting. He has served twice as Director of the Department of Financial Economics (1987–1990 and 2009–2012).

Since qualifying as an Actuary, he has consistently worked to promote the relationship between academia and the professional world. He specialises in Risk Theory and Solvency Analysis and he has advised insurance companies on implementing the Solvency II Directive and provided numerous professional opinions.

In the professional field, he has served as a member of the Governing Board of the Institute of Spanish Actuaries. During this time, he chaired the University Commission, which supervises and authorises the teaching of Master’s degrees leading to the award of the title of Actuary in Spain with European recognition.

At the Faculty of Economics, he has played a crucial role in implementing and developing Actuarial Studies in Valencia. He was appointed the Director of the Master’s Degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences.

In 2015, Muñoz became the Vice-Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research. In 2021, he was elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics in 2021, a position which he currently holds and has just be reappointed to.

The Faculty of Economics, with over 8,000 students, technical staff and teaching staff, aims to become the largest university centre in the Valencian Community and a reference centre for the training of young talent. This human capital is essential for addressing the current and future challenges of an uncertain and demanding environment.
