The writer and journalist Dacia Maraini presents in the Universitat her last literary work and a coral work about women of the Republic, in which she participates. The Italian author, one of the most accredited voices in the Italian literature, will participate in the Universitat de València in two presentations on Wednesday 2 November, one of them at 12:00 in the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication and the other one at 19:00 in the Rector Peset Hall of Residence, where she will have a colloquium with the public.

The Assembly Hall (first floor) of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication will host at 12:00 the presentation of ‘La bambina e il sognatore’ (Rizzoli, 2016). During the act the author will have a colloquium with the participants. The act is moderated by Juan Carlos de Miguel, from the Department of French and Italian.

In the evening, at 19:00, the meeting between the writer and the journalist will be in the Rector Peset Hall of Residence for the presentation ‘Donne della Repubblica’ (VV.AA. Il Mulino, 2016). Dacia Maraini will have a colloquium with the public about the role of women in Italy since the Second World War until today. During the act, Justo Serna, from the Department of Modern and Contemporary History, will do a critical reading. The session will be moderated by Giulia Colaizzi, from the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences.

Dacia Maraini (Fiésole, 1936) is one of the most accredited voices in the Italian literature. Poet, narrator, playwright and theatre woman, essayist, journalist, author of children's literature, among others, has published many books that have been translated into different languages. Her first novel, “La vacanza”, dates from 1962; in 1990 came the great success “La lunga vita de Marianna Ucría” (taken to the screen in 1997); and in 2004 it was published “Colomba”, very well received by the readers. The last one, "La bambina e il sognatore" (2016), starts with the disappearance of a girl of eight years old in a small Italian town; a young teacher -who recently lost his own child- will look for her dauntlessly.

On the other hand, ‘Donne della Repubblica’ (2016), with an introduction of Dacia Maraini, is compound by 14 biographical voices by a series of female authors of the "Controparola" group, about different women with wide projection in the different fields of the Italian public life of the second half of the 20th century.

Dacia Maraini’s brilliant career, recognised by the multiple awards she has received, her assiduous presence in the social communication media and her generous commitment with women and the weak, have made her become a privileged interlocutor of the contemporary Italian culture.
