Javier Plaza becomes the new Data Protection Representative of the Universitat de València

The professor of Civil Law Javier Plaza has been appointed Data Protection Representative of the Universitat de València by the Principal, Mavi Mestre. The position is regulated by the General Rules of Data Protection (RGPD) of the European Union, which comes into effect on May 25.

RGPD establishes that the position must be assumed by a specialist in Law who has experience in data protection.

Javier Plaza Penadés (Valencia, 1969) is a professor of the Department of Civil Law and an expert in data protection, artificial intelligence, Big Data and transparency. He is a member of the Committee of Wise Men for the elaboration of the “White Paper on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data”. 

He is the director of “Revista Aranzadi de Derecho y Nuevas Tecnologías” published by Aranzadi Thomson-Reuters and counting with the sponsorship of the School of Mercantile and Property Registrars of Spain. He is also in charge of the Official Master’s degree in Mediation, Arbitration, and Conflict Management in Private Law.

Among his books, we can highlight “El derecho al honor y la libertad de expresión”, “Propiedad intelectual y sociedad de la información” and “Derecho y nuevas tecnologías de la información y la comunicación”.

As the new delegate, he must inform and advice the responsible of data processing, supervising that the European and other regulations come into effect, advising and assessing data protection issues and supervising its implementation, and acting as a link for the control authorities to issues related to data processing.
