The joint programme of Fundación Cañada Blanch and Casa Mediterráneo continues with a conference given by writer Javier Reverte on the 17th of April at 18:30 in the Assembly Hall of La Nau. Free entry until full capacity is reached.

Javier Reverte is a famous writer, traveller and journalist, a job that he has practised for over 30 years. Three decades of life experiences he will tell the audience while talking a bit about the evolution of journalism. Journalist Sonia Marco will be the moderator.

The journalist will mostly talk about his trips. ‘I’ve always loved getting away; when I was in school I always tried to skip class.’ Among his many experiences, he highlights his first trip, when ‘I was really moved by the sea, I went running to test if the water was really salty, just to make sure they hadn’t tricked me. Nowadays, there’s still people from the inland Spain who have never seen the sea.’

He will use these and other experiences around the world to make a personal portrait of his enigmatic trajectory and explain why he recommends travelling alone to write and talk to the people of the places he visits. An example of the interest Reverte raises is the documentary ‘Imprescindibles: Javier Reverte, el amigo de Ulises’, a production of La 2 (RTVE) that is part of a series about famous personalities of the Spanish culture of the 20th century.

Javier Reverte worked as a news correspondent in London from 1971 to 1973, in Paris from 1973 to 1977 and in Lisbon in 1978. Article writer, political reporter and chief editor, Reverte was a special envoy in many countries, working as a reporter in the Portada de TVE programme and assistant manager of Pueblo journal. During the last decade he has published a great number of travel books, like ‘El sueño de África’, ‘El corazón de Ulises’ and ‘Canta Irlanda’, where he gathers his impressions about the country and he reviews the history and the legends of the Island.

Furthermore, for all of his ‘adventures’, in more than 70 countries of the Spanish Geographic Society he has been named as Member of Honour. Award that he has recently received from the hands of the king Felipe VI.

A relevant character of the culture and society and who is member of the commitment of ‘Casa Mediterrani’ and ‘Fundación Cañada Blanch’ to encourage the knowledge of new perspectives through art, literature and music.

 Future activities

The programming of the ‘Fundación Cañada Blanch’ will continue in May with several activities such as the cycle Conectalks, where five conferences are included and which will begin on Tuesday, the 7th of May. The first, with the name: 'El universo invisible: agujeros negros y el radiotelescopio ALMA’, will be in charge of Rafael Bachiller, director of the National Observatory.

Since the 7th to the 11th of May, the ‘Fundació’ invites the public into attending the Photon Festival, an event which sponsors since its first edition and which for the ninth consecutive year is supporting this project.

Music will be other of the protagonists on the programme of the ‘Fundación Cañada Blanch’ and ‘Casa Mediterráneo’ with the concert of the Moroccan pianist Marouam Benabdalh, inside the cycle #Artesdelmediterráneo which will take place on the 22th of May at the Cultural Centre La Nau in El Carme.

Finally, following the wake of Javier Reverte, in May the writer Espido Freire will be in the Foundation headquarters, inside the cycle #LetrasdelMediterráneo the 29th at 19:00.
