Jorge Garbajosa, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation and world champion as player, opens the Master’s Degree in Sport Management

The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Jorge Garbajosa, will give the opening lecture of the official Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Management, on Monday, at 16:00, in the Degrees’ Hall of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. The conference was titled ‘The Management Model of the Spanish Basketball. Future prospects’.

Jorge Garbajosa was elected president of the federation last 9 July for the period 2016-2020. As a player he has been part of the ‘golden generation’ of the Spanish basketball. He was world champion in 2006, European champion in 2009 and Olympic runner-up in 2008, among many other successes. He has been international with the basketball team 167 times, and during his long professional career he won the league in 2006 and he was the champion of the Copa del Rey (King’s Cup) with the Unicaja of Málaga. He was also champion of the FIBA Saporta Cup with the Baskonia in 1999, champion of the league and the cup in Italy in 2003, and with the Benetton Treviso club, champion of the league in 2012 and champion of the cup in 2004.

After his retirement as player in 2012, he occupied several positions in the federation and since 2013 he has run the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. He did the SBA Sport Business Administration (Garrigues-CDS-LFP) and has the gold medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit which is given by the Government of Spain.
